How do public authorities ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a trusted and integral part of their public services? With growing public interest in AI prompted by the global rise of ChatGPT, Tampere’s leadership knew it should look at how AI could be integrated into public services. But Tampere wasn’t prepared to rush into AI without a clear plan. As its director of digital transformation Aleksi Kopponen noted, it wasn’t just about implementing AI but about rethinking the city’s operations and understanding the implications of such technologies for how Tampere works. This has required meticulous planning and close collaboration with professional partners like Capgemini. For example, our Sogeti business unit brought unique access to the latest advancements and best practices in AI deployment to Tampere. Together, Tampere and its partners are navigating the city’s AI journey with a focus on strategy, governance, and learning.
