Partnering closely with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), we developed a mobile application that enables seamless, 24/7 engagement between HMRC and its customers. Accessibility was a core focus throughout the project. Our dedicated accessibility champions conducted regular assessments during development, driving continuous improvements. This led to the creation of a custom component library designed with accessibility at its heart. From day one, the app included features such as screen reader compatibility and voice-over support. It also followed the Government Digital Service (GDS) design principles, ensuring a consistent and familiar user experience across platforms—right down to naming conventions, structure, and visual design. As a result, the HMRC app is instantly recognizable as an official UK Government digital product, helping users feel confident and secure during their interactions. This project stands as a strong example of how collaborative innovation can lead to inclusive, user-centric solutions that strengthen the connection between government and citizens. When to Ask for Permissions and When Not To Too many apps still ask for everything the moment you open them. Result? Distrust, low opt-in rates, and frustrated users. The better path: progressive permissions. Ask only what’s needed, explain the benefit, and time it right. Here’s what works: • Context matters: request location only during delivery search, camera only when adding a photo. • Explain the why: approval rates jump to 60–85% with a clear explanation (vs. 25–40% without). • Respect the “No”: never block the core flow—offer alternatives instead.
