Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is walk away. Years ago, I left a job after just four months. I knew on day one I’d made a huge mistake. The culture, the energy, the leadership...none of it aligned with who I was or how I worked best. The moment that sealed it? My manager. Barely in their twenties, once pulled me aside to criticise me for arriving at 9:05am. Then added, “As one of the older members of the team, I expect you to set a better example.” That was the day I realised two things: 1️⃣ Respect and leadership have nothing to do with age. 2️⃣ Staying somewhere that chips away at your confidence, self worth, or joy is never worth it. Walking away wasn’t easy. It bruised my ego. I worried what people would think. I didn't know how to position my reasons for leaving after only four months with potential new employers. But leaving that environment was the first step toward finding workplaces where I could thrive, not just survive. If you’re in a role that drains you, diminishes you, or no longer serves you, trust your gut. You don’t owe anyone your peace, your potential, or your self respect. The right environment doesn’t make you question your worth. It reminds you of it. #CareerGrowth #Leadership #TheCommsConnector #WorkplaceCulture #CareerAdvice

Such a powerful story. It’s a great reminder that fit and alignment matter just as much as skill and experience. Walking away isn’t quitting, it’s choosing growth.

The real cost of staying somewhere that dims your light? Confidence. Energy. Self-belief. Leaving isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom. You don’t owe your brilliance to the wrong rooms. Thank you for sharing this, Carrie Johnston ✨️!
