🌿 Europa heeft veel meer bos dan 100 jaar geleden! Europa is in veel regio’s groener dan honderd jaar geleden. Historisch landgebruiks-onderzoek laat zien hoe bos en natuur terrein terugwinnen: door marginale percelen (hellingen, arme bodems) te verlaten én door hogere opbrengsten op de beste gronden. Het resultaat: elke paar jaar komt er in Europa netto bos bij ter grootte van Cyprus. 🎯 Dit is precies wat land sparing betekent: intensiveren waar het kan, ruimte geven waar het moet, zodat biodiversiteit, koolstofopslag en landschap herstellen. 📘 Dat inzicht is niet nieuw. In het WRR-Rapport Grond voor Keuzen (1992) werd al geschetst dat hogere productiviteit het mogelijk maakt om aanzienlijk areaal uit productie te nemen en terug te geven aan natuur. Zet je die lijn door, dan kunnen we nóg meer land herstellen. Laten we deze koers versnellen: kies voor hoge productiviteit op geschikte gronden en voor gericht herstel elders. Zo bouwen we aan een Europa waar rijke natuur en sterke landbouw elkaar versterken.
