Marinas and boatyards rely on covered spaces for a variety of reasons, so we used this ClearSpan blog to highlight the traits that make fabric structures perfect for any marine application, including boat storage, repairs, routine maintenance and more. https://ow.ly/UBk450X9QEp

Have you ever wondered why some bird netting keeps seagulls out but seems invisible to sparrows? It all comes down to one critical detail: **mesh size**—and it’s where many installations go wrong. At **Birdspikes.company**, we see this issue daily. Small birds like sparrows can easily slip through anything larger than a ¼-inch mesh. For pigeons, ¾-inch works, while larger birds such as seagulls or crows typically need at least 2-inch spacing. The biggest misconception? Choosing mesh size based on the largest pest. In reality, your netting should match the smallest bird creating the problem. Undersizing slightly is almost always better than oversizing—the right mesh saves time, money, and repeat work. As bird control grows in both residential and commercial spaces, precision in materials is more vital than ever. How do you ensure your installations balance durability, visibility, and species-specific control? Let’s talk best practices. 👉 Learn more at [https://birdspikes.company](https://birdspikes.company) and join the conversation below.

Contemplating the restoration of a fixer-upper boat can bring up a lot of questions. The video highlights the various issues with a boat, from non-functional lights and a broken horn to a bilge pump that only partially works. While the idea of owning a boat is appealing, the reality of dealing with moldy plywood and potentially costly repairs raises concerns. The lesson here is the importance of realistically assessing the cost and effort required for restoration projects. Sometimes, the dream might not align with the practicalities of time, money, and resources. Would love to hear your thoughts on tackling big renovation projects. #boatlife #renovation #sailing #restoration #marine #DIY

One of the most effective uses of artificial rockwork is to conceal structures that would otherwise disrupt the landscape. Buildings, shipping containers and other 'off-show' areas are often necessary, but they don’t need to dominate the view. By using sprayed concrete over a steel framework, we can create rockwork shells that not only hide these elements but also serve a practical function as walls in their own right. This dual-purpose approach maximises space while delivering a naturalistic finish. At Hamerton Zoo Park, our recently completed kopje rock formation conceals two shipping containers and a standalone 'off show' animal area. The end result blends seamlessly into the zoo environment, keeping the focus where it should be — on the animals and their habitats. Stay until the end of the video and you will see the back of the visible rock and how we made the walls smooth and animal friendly!

VESSEL REVIEW: Scottish fishing company West Coast Sea Products (WCSP) recently took delivery of a new scallop trawler built by Parkol Marine Engineering. 'Halcyon' is a steel-hulled vessel with a round bilge, a transom stern, a bulbous bow, and a soft nose stem. She is rigged for scallop dredge fishing, with dredge tipping doors and catch handling conveyors for a maximum of 18 dredges on either side, though the present configuration has only 17 dredgers on either side. The trawler will transport the scallops to any suitable port, and the catch will eventually be brought to WCSP’s factory in Kirkcudbright for processing. The vessel may also land catch directly at Kirkcudbright, and this is made possible by fore and aft trim tanks that allow the draught to be further reduced to ensure safe navigation to and from the town’s harbour. https://lnkd.in/gAt3pdSY

Connecting habitat at The Quoin starts with keeping saplings standing... At Honeysuckle Flat, we’re using the vegetation islet method to create stepping stones of habitat through a degraded landscape, linking patches of intact forest. But in a place where hungry herbivores hang out, young plants don’t stand a chance without protection. So we designed and trialled four cage shapes — cube, cylinder, triangular prism, and a Reuleaux triangular prism — to find out which could offer the best balance of strength, cost and ease of construction in the field. We wanted structures that used the least material for the most internal space, and that could be built on site with basic tools and no machinery. Swipe through to see what worked (and what didn’t). And head to The Quoin Journal to read the full story, including what we’d do differently next time: https://lnkd.in/gy5igxe4

Have you ever seen an artesian well? Here’s how they work: groundwater is naturally brought to the surface due to the hydrostatic pressure within the aquifer below, instead of pumping like typical wells. John-Michael Teater, Forester in Lufkin, TX, shared this video from a client property in Trinity County, TX. Since the well is located in a High Conservation Value Forest (HCVF), it has been marked and properly annotated on maps to ensure its protection and safety.
