Maha-Metro signs cybersecurity MoU with IIT Kanpur's C3iHub

Cyber News!!! In a landmark move to bolster digital resilience in public transport, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has signed its first cybersecurity Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub. The agreement, formalized on September 26 at Metro Bhavan, marks the first collaboration of its kind between a metro operator and an academic cybersecurity research center in India. The pact aims to secure critical systems across Pune and Nagpur metro networks—including operations control, signalling, telecom, fare collection, tunnel management, and onboard equipment. It will involve vulnerability assessments, policy development, and real-time monitoring aligned with global standards like ISO/IEC 27001:2022, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and CERT-In guidelines. Maha-Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar emphasized that metro systems, with their citizen-facing infrastructure, cannot remain untouched by cyber threats. C3iHub CEO Dr. Tanima Hazra praised Maha-Metro’s proactive stance and highlighted the importance of tailored cybersecurity solutions for urban transit. Security evaluations will begin at key sites including depots and control centers in Pune and Nagpur, with similar initiatives now being considered by other metro systems nationwide.
