I love seeing moments when the future of tech becomes a reality. This is one of them. We're moving beyond complex SQL queries to simply having a conversation with our data. This new post from the Google Cloud team shows exactly what this looks like in practice. They've launched amazing new tools in BigQuery that let you ask complex questions in plain English and get deep, meaningful insights back. As a product manager in Google Research, seeing our foundational work help power these new agent-like experiences in Cloud is just fantastic. I’ve seen so many teams overcomplicate “data quality” projects. Often, it comes down to a handful of simple checks and habits 👇
𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮. But most teams overcomplicate it. 𝘐𝘵 𝘶𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘧𝘦𝘸 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘴: 𝟭. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻. If people can type “cat” into a revenue field, don’t be surprised when your reports look weird. A couple of simple checks up front saves a lot of pain later. 𝟮. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘆𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀.Things break. That’s normal. What matters is knowing right away. Even a Slack ping is better than finding out a week later. 𝟯. 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺. A quick map of “this table comes from here” sounds boring… until it’s 2AM and you’re asked why a dashboard is red. Not complex. Not expensive.
