Foresight, instinct, and ingenuity – Florence Knoll had what it took to helm a powerhouse of modern design. She tapped Eero Saarinen to create a chair she could curl up in; challenged Richard Schultz to design outdoor furniture that could withstand the salty environment of her Florida home; and she licensed and manufactured Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair long before it was an icon. Florence’s discerning taste also led her to design her own furniture – and her Italian-made credenza, designed in 1961, stands as a testament to her own talent and vision for the future of modern design.
