To the person out there panicking about their job search—pause, breathe, and read this. It might feel like you’re doing everything right: sending out applications, updating your resume, checking job boards daily… and still hearing nothing. That silence can be crushing. It can feel personal. And in the worst moments, it can feel hopeless. But here’s the truth: you’re not alone—and you’re not out of options. When it feels like nothing is moving, try this: 🎯 Take one small step forward today. Not ten. Not twenty. Just one. That could be: • Reaching out to someone in your network you haven’t talked to in a while • Posting on LinkedIn that you’re actively looking and sharing the type of role you’re after • Researching one company and tailoring your resume for a specific opening • Asking someone you trust for feedback on your resume or interview prep Progress doesn’t always feel big. Sometimes, it’s just showing up and doing one thing that moves you forward. And over time, those small steps create momentum. You’ve made it this far. Don’t quit now. You’re not behind. You’re not forgotten. You’re still in the game—and the right opportunity WILL come. #AEC #MEP #ConstructionJobs #ConstructionCareers

Most people begin their job search by jumping straight into applications. I’ve seen it countless times: - The frantic energy. - The “apply to everything” mindset. - The chaotic application schedule. - The late-night resume rewrites. But the clients who truly thrive are the ones who slow down first: - They strategize. - They take time to reflect on what works well and what doesn't. - They get honest about their strengths and weaknesses. - They clarify what kind of environment they want to work in, what they value, and where they want to go. Once you know who you are and what you’re aiming for, everything else starts to align. Then, with a clear intent, a polished resume, an application tracker, and a focused job search strategy, paired with consistency, you turn chaos into direction. And it doesn’t have to be overwhelming! It can be done on your own or with support: through self-coaching, structured coaching sessions, or job search concierge services like the ones I offer at Morgen Davies. I’ve developed methods that have helped job seekers land their dream roles with less than 30 minutes of daily job search effort. Think: fewer weekends lost to mass applications, and more wins, skills, and experiences that last a lifetime - from screening calls to interviews to job offers. Set yourself up for success before the race begins. It’s the best way to make sure you actually cross the finish line. — Greg morgendavies.com #CareerCoaching #JobSearch #JobSearchStrategy #JobSearchTips #ProfessionalGrowth #CoachingForSuccess #CareerClarity #LeadershipDevelopment #CareerTransition #MorgenDavies #CareerCoach #IntentionalLiving

The Job Search Secret: Your Biggest Asset Isn't Your Resume Let's be honest: the job search can be exhausting. The rejections feel personal, and the process can make you question your own capabilities. But here's a crucial truth I've learned: your biggest asset isn't the carefully curated list of skills on your resume. It's the clarity you gain through reflection. Instead of scrolling endless listings, try journaling on these questions: When was a time in my previous role I felt genuinely valued and energized? What was I doing? What work environments (team size, pace, culture) allow me to do my best work? What is the non-negotiable—the thing I need in my next role to feel professionally fulfilled? (It could be work-life balance, autonomy, or a specific mission). You can't sell a product you don't fully understand. Take the time to understand your value, your needs, and your ideal next step. That clarity is what will shine through in your interviews and land you the right job, not just any job. #CareerGrowth #JobSearchJourney #Reflection #Clarity

Job searching is stressful; no one needs to tell you that. Between CV tweaks, endless applications, and waiting for responses, it can quickly feel overwhelming. But sometimes, it’s not the big changes that help. It’s the small habits that make the process easier to manage: ✅ Taking short breaks instead of staring at job boards for hours. ✅ Setting aside specific hours for applications instead of applying all day. ✅ Tracking your applications so you don’t lose sight of progress. ✅ Celebrating little wins like getting a response, even if it’s not an offer. These small steps don’t remove the challenges, but they make the journey less draining. 👉 And if you still feel like it’s too much? That’s why we exist to take the application burden off you, so you can focus on preparing for interviews instead of burning out during the search. Let’s Talk About Job Scams on LinkedIn! I Wasn’t Going to Share This… But It Could Save Someone Else We all know LinkedIn is a professional space — a place to connect, learn, and grow our careers. But recently, I had an experience that reminded me that not everyone here has good intentions. I came across a job post that looked legit. I quickly sent in my resume, hoping for feedback. Shortly after, the person replied, saying my resume didn’t fit the job requirements — fair enough, right? But then came the twist… He offered to “create a better resume” for me and said he’d charge ₦15,000. That was the moment I knew something was off. Lesson learned: If a recruiter or job poster starts asking for money before, during, or after an application process — please pause! No genuine recruiter will ask you to pay for CV writing, job slots, or interviews. ✅ Here’s what you should do instead: Always check the company’s official website before applying. Verify the recruiter’s profile (look at their connections, post history, and company tag). Never share personal or financial information. Trust your instincts — if it feels off, it probably is. Let’s keep LinkedIn a safe and professional space. If you’ve had a similar experience, share your story — let’s educate one another and protect ourselves from these online scams. #LinkedInSafety #JobSearch #CareerTips #ScamAlert #ProfessionalGrowth

Update your resume, even if you're not looking for another job. This is what I tell everybody I get the chance to. This is what I tell my team members as well, believe it or not! Unbelievable, somebody in a position of power, telling their subordinates to keep their resume up-to-date? Unthinkable. Yet I do. But it's not about me, it's about the gains from doing that and I believe in it, so I share it. And here are the benefits. 1. You will always know where you are And that means you will always know your worth. Updating your resume forces you to think about the skills and experience you've obtained so far. If you're updating your resume after 3 months for example, and find yourself stuck at the same place, then maybe you will start to think about what to do to not be stuck in another 3 months. 2. It gives you a push Echoing the first point, when you know where you are, you might start thinking where you want to be. What skills do you want to polish and gain? What certifications you want to target? What kind of work you want to do more, and more importantly, which to do less? Whatever it is, it triggers you to start planning on the next 3 months at least. If you're feeling stuck, then this periodic checkups provide you a flick on your head to move forward; wherever that may be. 3. You always know yourself. And that means always able to answer questions from your aunts and uncles during family gatherings, with friends on your annual reunion, and well, maybe unexpected interviews with a potential new employer! I asked my team members what are their values and how have they contributed so far. Not that I didn't know— I really do. The purpose of the question is rhetorical; it was asked to make them think and reflect how much do they know themselves and what were their impact. I did not need the answer because I knew. I needed them to realize that they did not know themselves. And I don't want that for them. I want them to always know their values. I want you to know your values. So, go ahead and update your resume every 3 months or when something big happened. You'll see a world of difference. As always, goodluck 😉 #resume #interview #cv #career #leader #manager

Getting started in a job search can feel overwhelming. I may have highlighted these tips before, but I’ve had a recent influx of messages from job seekers asking where to begin so here’s the advice I keep coming back to again and again. When you’re applying: ✨ Choose 3–5 jobs per week to apply to (Quality > quantity, you’ll put more intention into each one.) ✨ Tailor your resume very specifically to the job description (Use their language and mirror the skills they’re asking for.) ✨ Highlight concrete impact in your bullet points (Think: growth you’ve driven, figures and numbers, outcomes you’ve influenced.) ✨ Keep it focused on the results you’ve delivered (“Increased XYZ by 20%” speaks much louder than “responsible for XYZ.”) It’s about showing, not just telling, the value you bring. I’ve seen candidates land interviews simply by making these changes to how they present their experience. If you’re in the middle of a job search, remember: • Don’t spread yourself too thin • Lead with your impact • Show them the results only you could deliver Save this for when you need a nudge in the right direction and good luck out there! You’ve got this!!! #jobsearchtips #resumeadvice #careertransition #interviewprep #recruiterlife

Here's a valuable Tuesday Tip 💡 for job seekers: Take a moment to review your resume! If it's been a while since your last update, dust off your device and give it a thorough read. Ensure you include any licenses, certifications, skills, experiences, or professional affiliations you've acquired. While a resume doesn't reveal everything, it often shapes the initial impression you make on your hiring manager. Make it count 😉 #JobSeekers #ResumeTips #ProfessionalDevelopment

If I could scream one thing from the top of a mountain to all job seekers today, it would be this: If you apply to a high number of job postings with the exact same resume, you are NOT increasing the chances of getting an interview! 📣 Unfortunately, there is no universal rule of fairness that guarantees you an interview for every 30 applications you submit. (I wish!) Companies only know that you applied for their job posting, and they have no idea (or care) about who else you applied to. They want to quickly see that you're qualified for THAT role. Our brains are quite good at tricking us... "of course if I submit more applications I'll have a higher shot at an interview!" 🙅♀️ The job market and system are not fair. But if you're going to try to play the job search game, make sure you're correctly assessing the odds of the approach you've chosen. High quality applications win over high quantity applications. 🎲 {I post about job search planning, career strategy, and mindset - follow me on LinkedIn for more insights! 🤓} #careercoach #careerdork #jobsearch

What are we even doing? When you look at what the modern job search demands—hours spent tailoring resumes, waiting weeks for responses, and months to land an offer—it’s worth pausing to ask how sustainable this process really is. Here’s what recent data shows about the journey: • Most candidates spend about 30–45 minutes per application, tailoring their resume carefully to each role. • On average, job seekers send out 50–100 applications before landing interviews. • The wait time to hear back for an interview? Around 22 days, but it can stretch to two months or more. • From submitting your application to getting a job offer, expect about 68.5 days—that’s over two months of anticipation. • Putting it all together, a typical job search takes 3 to 6 months, especially in competitive sectors. The job search is a journey requiring patience, persistence, and continuous refinement of your approach. If you’re applying or coaching others, keep these timelines in mind to set realistic expectations and pace yourself. What strategies have helped you stay motivated during your job search?
