The Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence is excited to announce that the Accessible Healthcare through AI-Augmented Decisions (AHeAD) Center has been approved for a planning grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to establish an Industry University Cooperative Research Center. The center will partner with healthcare industry leaders to create AI-augmented decision support tools designed to enhance healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and reduce costs. Raju Gottumukkala PhD, director of UL Lafayette’s Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence, will direct the AHeAD Center. I recently tried the Simplified and Automated Research Amplification and Learning (SARAL) platform by Ponnurangam Kumaraguru (PK) with one of our popular works "N. Nilesh, I. Patwardhan, J. Narang, and S. Chaudhari, "IoT-based AQI Estimation using Image Processing and Learning Methods," in WF-IoT, Nov. 2022.” It summarized the findings impressively (Video attached). 🌟 VLCMatrix Lab Research Update! 🚀🤟 We are proud to announce that our latest research, led by Dr. Tanzila Kehkashan, has been officially published in IEEE: "Enhanced and Interpretable Brain Stroke Detection with High Accuracy using ViT B-16 Model", presented at the 2024 IEEE 5th International Conference on Innovative Computing (ICIC). Brain stroke is a critical medical emergency and the fifth leading cause of death worldwide, affecting millions annually. Prompt and accurate diagnosis is essential to prevent brain damage and improve patient outcomes. Despite advancements in AI, traditional CNN-based models often struggle with interpretability and capturing long-range dependencies in medical images, limiting their clinical application. Our research introduces a breakthrough solution using the Vision Transformer (ViT) B-16 model combined with Class Activation Maps (CAMs) for automated stroke detection. This powerful architecture captures subtle spatial relationships across brain regions with exceptional accuracy: ✅ 96% Accuracy ✅ 97% Precision ✅ 97.5% Recall ✅ 96.5% F1 Score ✅ 0.97 AUC on ROC Curve What makes our approach truly innovative is the integration of CAMs, which provide visual explanations by highlighting the regions of brain scans that influence classification decisions. This transparency is critical for clinical adoption, enabling healthcare professionals to trust and understand AI-driven diagnoses. As India prepares for the inaugural #SupercomputingIndia 2025, the momentum for the nation’s flagship High-Performance Computing (#HPC) initiative continues to build under the National Supercomputing Mission (#NSM), jointly led by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology , and implemented by CDACINDIA in collaboration with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. On this occasion, Shri Magesh Ethirajan, Director General, C-DAC, reflected on C-DAC’s journey and its pivotal role in advancing technologies such as #AI, #QuantumComputing, and #Supercomputing.
