Good news to announce that Moldova has been selected to host AI Factory Antenna under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. This marks a historic moment for our country’s digital transformation and European integration. The Moldova AI Factory Antenna (FAIMA) will connect our national innovation ecosystem to the PIAST AI Factory in Poland, granting our researchers, startups, and public institutions access to cutting-edge supercomputing resources. This initiative is part of a broader European effort to democratize AI and high-performance computing, with €55 million in EU funding matched by contributors from participating states. Our recent accession to EuroHPC JU further strengthens Moldova’s position in Europe’s digital landscape, opening doors to Horizon Europe projects and next-generation technologies. Moldova is now firmly embedded in the EU’s AI and HPC ecosystem, and we are ready to contribute to shaping Europe’s digital future. The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) has just announced 13 new “AI Factory Antennas” across Europe. One of them, the UK AI Factory Antenna (UKAIFA), is led by EPCC at The University of Edinburgh – and HLRS is proud to be part of this collaboration through HammerHAI. This partnership will connect the UK to the broader European AI Factory network and help accelerate AI adoption in SMEs, startups, industry, and the public sector. HLRS will provide access to a new AI-optimized supercomputer (coming early 2026) and work with UKAIFA to enable secure, federated data sharing and cross-platform compatibility. Bastian Koller, HLRS Managing Director and HammerHAI Lead Coordinator, commented: "The UKAIFA is a perfect match for HammerHAI. It allows us to build on our experience bringing HPC and AI to European industry, focusing on the real challenges companies face when adopting AI". By sharing expertise, computing resources, and practical AI solutions, this collaboration will help companies across Europe move from AI experimentation to real-world applications. Ireland will gain an AI Factory Antenna to boost national capabilities. This #AI #Supercomputing infrastructure will be implemented by a consortium led by ICHEC (Irish Centre for High-End Computing) and CeADAR Ireland, Centre for AI, based at University College Dublin. The AIF IRL-Antenna is evenly co-funded by EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) initiative and Ireland's Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. CEO of CeADAR, John Lonsdale said: “We look forward to working as joint lead with ICHEC on the AI Factory Antenna in Ireland and building a connected national ecosystem for AI and high-performance computing which aligns with Ireland’s strategic goals and global competitiveness. Last week, the European Commission and EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) announced six new AI Factories in the Czech Republic, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain, bringing the total to 19 sites across Europe. Each AI Factory will act as a national hub where SMEs, startups, and researchers can access, build and test models using Europe’s shared supercomputing and technical expertise. The expansion aims to spin up AI training facilities equipped with advanced AI chips, as part of efforts to democratise access to AI computing for businesses around Eastern bloc Communist countries. This initiative helps balance AI development across the continent, ensuring that talent, computing power, and innovation are accessible to all regions. 🚀 Major wins for Galway in AI and Supercomputing I welcome confirmation of €5 million in EU funding for Ireland's new AI Factory Antenna, and the signing of a Hosting Agreement for a new national supercomputer - both with strong Galway leadership. The AI Antenna, led by the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) at the University of Galway, with partners PorterShed and Innovation Technology AtlanTec Gateway, will help businesses, researchers and public bodies develop and test AI tools and connect into European networks. The supercomputer, to be hosted at the University of Galway, will drive cutting-edge research and innovation in science, technology and public services. It's official: the AI Factory is coming to Groningen. 👏🏼 By joining the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) network, Groningen becomes part of a European effort to reduce reliance on US and Chinese tech giants and to strengthen digital independence. The AI Factory will be housed in the former Niemeyer building, once a symbol of the tobacco industry and soon to become a centre for AI research and innovation. Researchers, businesses, and public organisations will collaborate here to develop smart AI solutions in agriculture, healthcare, and business.
