A legend. A mentor. A friend. 42 years, 11 months and 13 days. That’s how long Dieter Zetsche shaped Mercedes-Benz – and the global automotive industry. Now, he’s being inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame, an honour he absolutely merits. Dieter is more than a legend at Mercedes-Benz; he’s a giant of the automotive industry. His legacy? Unparalleled. His charisma? Unmatched. His moustache? Iconic. Under his leadership, Mercedes didn’t just recover – it underwent a monumental comeback which he spearheaded. Sales skyrocketed, we reclaimed the top spot in the premium segment, and our design language was completely reborn. He is the father of generations of legendary cars and a mentor to generations of auto industry managers. His most profound legacy might be the cultural shift he initiated. He championed a new spirit of openness, curiosity and empowerment that continues to propel our company forward today. I will never forget the support I received from Dieter as my mentor and former boss. He was always there – with advice, support, and a smile that made you want to invite him to a barbecue. Dieter left big shoes to fill when he stepped down as CEO in 2019 – and I’ve felt that ever since. Dear Dieter, it was a privilege to work with and for you. Thank you for everything you have done for me personally, for Mercedes-Benz, and for our industry. Congratulations on this incredible and well-deserved achievement. The Hall of Fame just gained a whole lot more character.
