This weekend, David Austin and I completed the Flying Pig Four-Way Challenge: 1 mile on Friday, a 10K and 5K on Saturday, and the full marathon on Sunday. It was a physically and emotionally demanding few days—but the true highlight was pacing a dear friend, who is also a kidney donor, to a Boston Qualifying time of 3:45. Supporting him in this milestone was one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had on the course. Both of us have given a kidney. I’ve also donated 75% of my liver. And yet, here we are—not just running, but thriving. These miles weren’t just about the finish line. They were a celebration of second chances, of what the human body can do after giving a piece of itself to someone else. Running has taught me resilience. Donation has taught me purpose. And together, they’ve taught me that service to others doesn’t slow us down—it fuels us forward.
