Chairman of the Board of Management at Bosch

During our annual press conference earlier today, we described the challenges we've been facing as Bosch in the 2024 business year – and still are. As presented by my fellow Bosch board member Dr. Markus Forschner, the market environment was a significant brake on growth last year. At 90.3 billion euros, we generated 1.4 percent less sales revenue in 2024 than in the previous year, or 0.5 percent less after adjusting for exchange-rate effects. However, in the 2024 business year, we achieved important improvements in terms of costs, structures, and portfolio. Our objectives remain ambitious. That's why the theme of our annual report this year is "Ambitions". What it means: We will use our strengths as a global technology company boldly and with full commitment, and we want to systematically seize every opportunity that comes our way. Here are just a few examples: Innovations drive economic growth. As a venture capital investor, we support startups worldwide that, like us, are working on technology that's "Invented for life". Our Corporate Venture Capital unit, Bosch Ventures, is launching its sixth fund, which totals 250 million euros, focusing on long-term investments in areas such as energy efficiency and artificial intelligence. In Mobility, it's clear that we have the right expertise and products in electromobility: This year alone, we're going into production with about 50 projects around the world, especially in Europe and China. Hydrogen will remain a strategic growth field for us. At Hannover Messe, we presented our Hybrion stacks, which are the heart of electrolysis systems, that can be used to produce hydrogen. In Consumer Goods, we're responding to evolving market demands by, for example, launching the world's first Matter-capable home appliance this year. In the Energy and Building Technology business sector, we anticipate entering the top tier of the global HVAC market mid-year, pending antitrust approvals for the largest acquisition in our company history: the takeover of the HVAC business for residential and light commercial buildings from Johnson Controls and Hitachi. I believe that the examples above show: At Bosch, we strive for more, shape change, set ambitious goals that motivate and inspire, and take action. A candid reflection paired with a forward-looking vision. Despite a tough market environment, Bosch continues to double down on innovation, strategic investment, and technological leadership across key sectors—from AI and energy to mobility and HVAC. A clear demonstration of ambition in action.

Great! 👏 I appreciate you sharing Bosch's honest insights and ambitious plans for 2025. The emphasis on balancing cost optimization with long-term bets in hydrogen and AI-driven energy efficiency resonates deeply. The debut of your Hybrion stack at Hannover Messe is truly inspiring. As green hydrogen gains traction worldwide, Bosch's modular stack design may play a pivotal role in driving industrial decarbonization. A question for the community: How might cross-sector collaborations accelerate the hydrogen economy's inflection point?
