I recently had the opportunity to present to the Senate Select Committee on the Social Determinants of Health, where I and my fellow co-presenters spoke to how social factors like environment, education, or access to resources, can shape not only children’s health, but their well-being and academic outcomes. I’m so grateful to State Senator Akilah Weber Pierson, M.D. (D-San Diego) for bringing together community leaders, educators, doctors, and policymakers to focus on the connections between early adversity, toxic stress physiology, and long-term health. We are shaping our systems to reflect what the SCIENCE is telling us for a healthier, more equitable future for generations of Californians!
