How do you make something as essential — and often overlooked — as urban sanitation work better for everyone? That’s exactly what our upcoming WASH lab webinar, hosted by Dev-Afrique, sets out to explore. Drawing participants from across Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe — including governments, utilities, partners, and funders — the session will showcase how DIGIT FSSM is helping cities strengthen sanitation delivery through data, transparency, and digital public infrastructure. Bringing India’s experience to the table are experts who’ve seen this transformation unfold firsthand. Prasanta Mohapatra, Senior Expert at TSU–MoHUA, Government of India, will share how the DIGIT FSSM helped strengthen and guide FSSM in Odisha. Joining him is Aveek De, Vice President at eGov Foundation, who will talk about how open digital platforms like DIGIT can help governments build resilient sanitation systems that last. Adding ground-level perspective, Shrija S Rao, Program Manager at eGov Foundation, will take us through the realities of implementing digital tools across urban local bodies, the pivotal problems of the FSSM, the challenges, lessons, and small wins that make a big difference. Completing the panel, Abhisek Rout, Senior Program Associate at eGov Foundation, will provide an in-depth demo of the product. Together, they’ll unpack one big question — how do we make sanitation governance smarter, more sustainable, and deeply citizen-centric? Date - 16th Oct’25 Time - 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM IST Link- https://lnkd.in/g-Z97_r6 This is one global conversation you’ll want to be part of. 🌍

What if we could change that with the power of data and data driven governance? I'm honoured to be joining a panel of experts for an upcoming WSH Data Labs Webinar, hosted by the excellent team at Dev-Afrique, to explore this very idea. We'll be diving deep into the transformative potential of Digital Public Infrastructure (#DPI) for the water and sanitation sector (#WASH). Our discussion will feature insights, focusing on how data-driven solutions like #DIGITFSSM are creating more transparent, efficient, and accountable sanitation ecosystems. This isn't just about technology; it's about building trust and delivering a fundamental human right. If you're a leader in government, a utility provider, or a development partner passionate about creating sustainable urban futures, this conversation is for you. #DYK Agri-food systems transformation and agroecology depend on sustainable water management, making access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services critical. Over the past decade, significant progress has been made in expanding these services, yet billions still lack them. This highlights the urgent need for increased investment in the WASH sector to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 and to support resilient, sustainable agrifood and agroecological practices. The importance of clear water for drinking is a central focus of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project, which aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water to every rural household in India through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs). Here are the key points: 1. Health and Hygiene • Clear and clean drinking water prevents waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, and dysentery. • Reduces malnutrition in children by preventing repeated infections. • Promotes overall hygiene and well-being. 2. Safe and Sustainable Living • Access to clear water improves quality of life by ensuring that families do not rely on contaminated sources like ponds, wells, or rivers. • It helps achieve sustainable development goals (SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation). 3. Women and Children Empowerment • Traditionally, women and children spend hours collecting water. With JJM providing clean tap water at home, they save time and effort. • This allows children to attend school regularly and women to engage in income-generating activities. 4. Economic Benefits • Reduced medical expenses due to fewer waterborne illnesses. • Increased productivity in rural communities as people spend less time being sick or fetching water. 5. Environmental Importance • Promotes the use of safe water while protecting natural water sources. • Encourages water conservation and community participation in maintaining water supply systems. 6. Trust and Transparency • Clear water symbolizes trust in governance—people can see that the water is safe to drink. • Regular water quality monitoring under JJM ensures transparency and accountability.

From today's Bhubaneswar edition of The Times Of India “The findings underscore a critical need for robust water quality governance, timely infrastructure upgrades and accountability in service delivery. As Odisha’s cities expand, the failure to ensure clean water could have cascading effects on health, productivity and trust in public systems,” said Ranjan Panda, a water expert. https://lnkd.in/gba6CKbx
