🤝 Last week at #SDIM25, we hosted a high-level session on carbon capture and utilization (#CCU), spotlighting the innovators, industry leaders, and policymakers pushing the boundaries of carbon technologies. Today’s global CCU capacity is ~4M tonnes/hour. Scaling that requires bold #collaboration. Our attendees agreed that achieving this requires several key actions: 🏛️ Ensure policy certainty: Speakers emphasized that 'legislation is a powerful tool that can make or collapse a market'. ✅ Make green solutions competitive: Creating pathways for green solutions may require carbon taxes and addressing fossil subsidies. 🏭 Enable cross-sector collaboration: As one speaker pointed out: 'There is no single technology that can fix this', highlighting how CCU is part of a broader suite of solutions. 🌍 Acknowledge different regions face different challenges: Europe’s unlocked capital and North America’s lack of coordination were highlighted, while it was suggested that China’s financing model might hold valuable lessons for the rest of the world. Daniel Mes, Member of the EU Competitiveness Taskforce, is now delivering a keynote at the #ICMSummit25. In his speech, he underlines how #carbonmanagement supports both Europe’s competiveness and climate goals by reinforcing Europe’s clean technology edge: « CCS is a key technology for Europe’s future competitiveness. It offers key solutions to assist our heavy industries to reinforce their #decarbonisation journey and gives Europe an edge in a future-proof clean technology. » He also emphasises how the competitiveness taskforce is supporting the advancement of carbon management: « The Taskforce for the EU’s competitiveness stands ready to work together with Member States and industry to connect the dots and support this part of Europe’s value chain together ».
