If you are working with an SEO specialist or an agency Please read up… 👇 One of my SaaS clients was flying 📈 Traffic was climbing, leads were coming through, happy days Sadly, the traffic progressively started to decline 📉 There was no apparent reason… However… 2 major things took place internally, which the SEO team wasn’t told about… #1. The client’s site experienced a form of cyberattack This resulted in the following issues: 1️⃣ The pages took 2-4 seconds to load, while Cloudflare verifies you 2️⃣ Cloudflare on occasions blocked users from entering the site (error 1015) The problem is, that the client knew about the problem the whole time And had been putting efforts to resolve it, but didn’t inform the SEO team 🫠 #2. The client made an internal change which… 👉 Caused ALL canonicals to link to staging URLs 🤦♀️ …Both of these issues were happening simultaneously Sure, you could say, the SEO team should have caught up on it fast We did eventually, But giving the SEO team a heads up, could have saved time hours of auditing And trying to figure out wtf is happening. So here’s my plea… If you work with an SEO Please keep them updated on ALL the changes you are planning on doing on your website And most definitely keep them updated if there are some big website issues Because just like trust, it takes months to build a solid SEO traffic…but seconds to lose! SEOs want the best for you - keep them updated & treat them as part of your team!

This is such a powerful reminder 👏. Even the best SEO strategy can crumble if technical issues or internal changes go unreported. It’s not just about ranking — it’s about teamwork and trust. Regular syncs and open channels can save weeks of lost traffic. What’s your go-to method for keeping everyone aligned on website updates?

Unfortunately, I see this happen all the time, changes are made without consulting the SEO team, and then we’re left scrambling to fix the issues. Open communication between teams is so important to avoid these situations and keep everything aligned.

Love what you’re doing, Elena. This story is such a clear reminder—SEO teams can’t fix what they don’t know. Who do you think needs this advice most?
