The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) handles almost half of the world’s digital transactions, primarily through its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform, and its reach continues to expand. According to India Today, there were just over 20 billion UPI transactions in August alone—far surpassing Brazil’s formidable real-time payments system, Pix, which processed roughly 6 billion monthly transactions last year. Overall, UPI now handles more daily transactions than Visa’s global network and China’s Alipay super app. Read more: https://ow.ly/2UAv50X29wY #Payments #UPI #RealTimePayments #DigitalPayments #FintechInnovation #FutureOfFinance #GlobalPayments

Google Pay has officially launched in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 Integration is enabled through mada, the national payment system. At launch, it’s supported by Al Rajhi Bank and Riyad Bank. More banks to follow. Users can add mada cards, Visa, and Mastercard to make contactless payments in-store, and soon in apps and online. Security is handled through tokenization, with device-specific virtual card numbers and dynamic security codes. Saudi Arabia already has one of the fastest-growing digital payments ecosystems in MENA, with regulators pushing for >70% non-cash transactions by 2030. This puts pressure on local banks and fintechs to keep wallets at the center of the customer relationship.

Cross-border payments have 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 been the messy middle of global finance—high friction, high cost, low trust. The Ooredoo–PayPal collaboration matters because it is not just another wallet tie-up, it is infrastructure-level interoperability connecting billions of consumers and businesses. Think less about “a new way to pay” and more about rewriting the rails for digital money movement. For finance leaders, that means faster liquidity flows, new merchant access, and fewer walls between domestic and global commerce. In short: what Swift was to banks, this could be to wallets—only faster, leaner, and born in the digital age.
