📉 Score: 0/5 The Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s Energy Policy Review fails the climate test ❌ — still backing fossil gas 🛢️, coal ⚫, and large hydropower 💧 projects that damage ecosystems and displace communities. True climate leadership means investing in wind 🌬️ and solar ☀️, not in outdated and destructive energy pathways. No more false solutions 🚫 No more fossil dependence 🌍 #ADBFossilFail #ADBClimateScore #StopFossilGas #NoCoal #JustEnergyTransition

Indigenous peoples hold the keys to Australia’s net zero transition – so should share the benefits fairly - says this great article in The Conversation Australia + NZ Almost half (43%) of new #renewable #energy infrastructure – from #wind and #solar to transmission and storage – will need to be built on recognised #FirstNations land to get to #netzero emissions by 2060. And 60% of critical energy minerals projects are on land where Indigenous peoples have a right to negotiate. https://ow.ly/3x6150X2xTh

Interesting discourse at the AFR Energy & Climate Conference in Sydney today. Quote of the day for me was "we can’t have a trade war with god over climate change" and this was challenged by energy intensive industry with increased reliance on gas on the path to decarbonisation. There are significant mid-term challenges as we decarbonise, with tensions between industry reliance on an increasingly stretched domestic gas supply and move to alternative energy sources. We clearly have systemic challenges ahead and there is a need for all parts of the energy ecosystem to work together on pragmatic solutions that balance near term needs and longer term energy sustainability #climate #afr #energytransition

This morning, Ibec’s Energy and Climate Policy Committee hosted Marie Donnelly, Chair of the Climate Change Advisory Council Ireland, for a constructive discussion on how Ireland can best meet its climate targets and overcome the barriers to decarbonisation. Key topics discussed included the opportunities in heat and transport electrification, biomethane, offshore and onshore renewables, district heating, waste as a resource, and carbon sequestration.
