I'm very excited to be giving a keynote talk at the Climate Change AI Workshop 🌎 🌐 at #NeurIPS2024 on Sunday. My talk, "Where methods meet impact in ML for environmental monitoring" is at 10am PST -- see the post below for information on how to watch the entire live stream for free!
We're already excited for our #NeurIPS2024 workshop this Sunday! Our program includes keynotes by Rebecca Hutchinson, Dr. Sasha Luccioni and Esther Rolf, along with a panel session, spotlight talks and poster sessions. The whole workshop will be livestreamed for free on our website. Check out details & the full schedule here: https://lnkd.in/dAn8Sgju We also want to thank our sponsors, Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute and Amazon, for supporting the workshop.
One of many proud big sister moments!

10moCongratulations Esther! I will try to tune in. It would be interesting to find a metric to test whether the energy expenditure required to run an ML model is less than the climate impact it helps to mitigate. For example, if your ML model helps a business reduce carbon emissions by 10 tons but the energy required to run the model requires 10 tons of carbon emissions, then the model has zero net positive impact on the climate
