✨ As we wrap up our event, we would like to highlight key concluding messages mentioned by the event moderator, John Brosnan 🌿 1️⃣ European forest owners have an important role to play in the bioeconomy to make the EU more resilient, autonomous, and competitive. They are not mere stakeholders — this is why the new Bioeconomy Strategy should encompass them as enablers. The strategy should therefore address the whole supply chain’s challenges and opportunities. 2️⃣ Our forests are sustainably managed according to many existing rules and the Forest Europe principles. We need a stable and unbureaucratic legislative framework, with no new complex rules. 🙏 A big thank you to all speakers and participants for sharing concrete examples, challenges, and solutions to boost Europe’s agricultural and forest-based bioeconomy — and to our co-organisers COPA COGECA and European State Forest Association | EUSTAFOR for their great work and effort in making today’s event a success. The connection between Europe’s food and drink makers and farmers runs deep - we quite literally depend on each other. 👩🌾 🍽️ 👷♀️ Food and drink processing is Europe’s largest manufacturing industry and buys some 70% of all EU farm produce, supporting 3.5m agricultural jobs. When farmers thrive, so do food and drink makers. That’s why we support the EU’s Generational Renewal Plan. We need to help the next generation of farmers build viable, sustainable businesses. 🌱 We call on European policymakers to turn this shared ambition into real investment and long-term support. At yesterday’s National Farmers' Federation Agricultural Sustainability Australia Exchange, we heard insights from across the sector that underscore the collaborative opportunities in agricultural sustainability: 🍇 Anna Hooper reminded us: “We can pretend this isn’t happening” - a wake-up call as global market pressure builds for emissions data from Australian wine producers. 🌳  CommBank's Carmel Onions highlighted the “hidden benefits of natural capital”, pointing to the positive correlation between environmental sustainability and financial sustainability. 🤝 Voconiq's Dr Kieren Moffat emphasised that “on-farm practices, industry commitment and industry responsiveness" are key drivers of trust - which is central to social license. Regenerative Agriculture: Beyond Sustainability, Toward Sovereignty In the face of climate disruption, soil degradation, and rural disempowerment, regenerative agriculture offers more than a solution—it offers a paradigm shift. It’s not just about restoring soil health. It’s about restoring dignity, equity, and interdependence across our food systems. From indigenous seed preservation to climate-smart value chains, regenerative practices center the wisdom of communities and the resilience of ecosystems. As we build agroecological models rooted in justice, we must ask: • Are our investments aligned with ecological regeneration? • Are our partnerships empowering smallholders and cooperatives? • Are our policies enabling systems change—or reinforcing extractive cycles? I believe Africa can lead the way. Through movement-led strategies, multi-agency coordination, and solidarity-based development, we can scale regenerative models that nourish both people and planet.
