Africa’s telecom sector is transforming rapidly with new regulatory changes, spectrum allocations, and market consolidation. ICASA’s next-generation spectrum policy aims to improve connectivity and promote equity, though operators like Telkom are calling for delays while MTN and Vodacom push for more spectrum to meet growing data demand. Consolidation trends, such as in Kenya, aim to enhance efficiency but raise competition concerns. Staying informed and adaptable is key for operators navigating these changes. #TelecomAfrica #SpectrumPolicy #MarketConsolidation #RegulatoryChanges #DigitalTransformation #TelecomStrategy https://lnkd.in/dDgvV6Tq

MTN Nigeria just reshaped fixed broadband in the market. Between May and July 2025, it more than doubled its subscriber base, from 14,424 to 29,314, accounting for virtually all the growth seen in that period. That leap didn’t just underscore aggressive investment, it revealed a strategic shift with FibreX at the heart of their ‘Own the Home’ push. It’s now about accessible, resilient home internet, not just premium estates. The bigger question: can Nigeria’s broader digital ecosystem keep pace? https://lnkd.in/eh44g5By

1moThe power plants of mobile sites were design for late 90s technology. Price of batteries plummeted but towercos, that bought the sites from the mobile operators, still use the same concept: Low backup hours. Usually 8 hours back up power Bigger Diesel generators. Diesel theft at African mobile sites is a significant problem, with some reports indicating that between 20% and 35% of fuel intended for tower sites is stolen in Africa. BESS is the solution. Voila! The generatorless site. Alex Sen Sooky Song Just keep a couple of mobile BESS to be trucked to a site that faced a catastrophic failure in the distribution utility. A generator with good maintenance lasts 12,000 hours. A medium quality maintenance, 10,000 hours. With bad maintenance 8,000 hours tops. The CEOs ad CTOs of these towercos Muhalia A. should get budget for their worst performing site and give the challenge to SENMARCK ENERGY to produce a generatorless site. During a blackout David Adhiambo the CTO would be drinking gasosa in the bar while the competition would be scrambling for Diesel. Júlio Gonçalves note we are offering this to Unitel too.
