New Mexico legalizes psilocybin therapy for mental health

New Mexico just made history. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed SB 219—the Medical Psilocybin Act—into law, making New Mexico the third U.S. state to legalize psilocybin access for therapeutic use, and the first state to enact an access model through the state legislature. The law creates a state-regulated framework for psilocybin-assisted therapy to be used in treating specified qualifying conditions such as PTSD, depression, and substance use disorders, with a projected implementation date of December 31, 2027. We are happy to celebrate a major milestone for psychedelic policy—and for mental health innovation across the U.S.
