We welcome the newly released National Audit of Care at the End of Life 2024 State of the Nations Report, offering vital insights into the quality of end of life care across acute and community hospitals in England, Wales, and Jersey. This year’s report, published by the NHS Benchmarking Network, includes evidence-based recommendations to improve care and a new Patient and Carer Tool to support transparency and understanding. At RCHT, we’re proud to support this essential work and encourage all healthcare professionals, providers, and system leaders to explore the findings. Together, we can raise the standard of care to ensure dignity, compassion, and quality for all at the end of life. Access the full report and tools: www.nacel.nhs.uk/outputs

Last Thursday, CHP hosted a fantastic event at Villa Park, Birmingham, bringing together system colleagues from across the Midlands, including some without LIFT properties, to explore the evolving concept of Neighbourhood Health. The workshop, entitled 'Neighbourhood Health Hubs: Delivering Hubs for healthier communities' explored insights from across the region with particular examples from Birmingham and Solihull through Matt Forrest, Associate Director of Transformation, Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Derbyshire from Angela Wright, Assistant Director Place Development & Delivery, NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (ICB). There were also talks from Michael Wood from NHS Confederation around broader policy discussions and how neighbourhood health is not constrained to health centres and Mike Simpson from Currie & Brown who spoke about aligning estates planning with this agenda. The workshop was well received and more information about the day is available to read: https://lnkd.in/eKc7Wcgs

Change is hard — especially in healthcare. I don’t envy the staff at the three Connecticut hospitals now facing the possibility of yet another ownership change. It’s challenging enough to focus on caring for patients while also navigating constant shifts in legislation, reimbursement, and AI-driven transformation. Adding bankrupt holding companies and unstable financial footings to the mix only deepens the uncertainty. Healthcare professionals deserve stability, transparency, and support so they can continue to do what they do best: care for their communities.
