When I touched down in SFO this weekend, I couldn’t help but think how far I’ve come in my founder journey. Co-founding and leading Engineering at 54gene a few years ago was a defining part of my journey. It was a life-changing experience to be part of a team that was building Africa’s leading biotech. It was also at 54gene that I got the idea for Rayda. I learned firsthand how frustrating it was to equip a remote team with laptops. My baptism of fire was trying to equip our first hire in Kenya. We shipped the device thinking we’d save money. Wrong. It took months and was more expensive if we had just bought it in Nairobi. More importantly, I changed. 54gene made me ambitious. It taught me to dream at a scale that was alien to me as a middle-class guy from Lagos, Nigeria. 54gene was the first time I felt I could build a globally important company. And now with Rayda I’m doing the same. I’m in San Francisco for the entire month, I will be at #SFTechWeek from Oct 6-12 and TechCrunch Disrupt later this month. Now at The Johns Hopkins University - Carey Business School, a lot of that knowledge in building for Biotech is highly relevant. It was equally a pleasure to have been part of Rayda’s earliest days.
