Birmingham pushes forward with Ladywood regeneration: £2.5B investment & up to 12,000 new homes Birmingham City Council has unveiled plans for a transformative £2.5 billion regeneration of the Ladywood Estate, in partnership with Berkeley St Joseph. The development will deliver up to 12,000 new homes, including at least 20% affordable housing, while existing council homes will be renewed or replaced. The project aims to deliver much more than housing — local infrastructure improvements, green spaces, enhanced transport links, and facilities designed with community involvement. Early consultations are already underway, with resident steering groups, a community charter, and other channels to ensure feedback shapes the masterplan. This regeneration isn’t just about buildings — it’s about creating opportunity: new jobs, apprenticeships, improved homes, and often badly-needed council housing brought up to modern standards. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eePPzuwM #Birmingham #Regeneration #Ladywood #Housing #AffordableHomes #UrbanDevelopment #CommunityEngagement #SustainableCities

DS2 is pleased to have advised John Lewis Partnership in securing resolution to grant consent from Reading Borough Council to deliver 170 rental homes on a former industrial site at Mill Lane, which previously housed a distribution centre. DS2 provided affordable housing and viability services in support of the development. The unanimous decision taken by the council’s planning committee praised the Partnership’s local engagement around the project and its 70 year commitment to Reading. Around one in six (16%) of the 170 homes will be affordable, with no difference in design, specification or service compared with market-rate homes. Local residents will be given first refusal on the mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments. Each one will be powered using an air source heat pump. The £70m scheme will regenerate an underused brownfield site to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient homes, nearly 5,000 sq ft of indoor amenity space for fitness, homeworking and socialising, and landscaped communal gardens. A new community space and access to gardens for local groups will also be provided. The scheme will deliver a biodiversity net gain of 328%, far exceeding the statutory 10% requirement required by policy. The project is expected to generate £18m in additional household spending and Council Tax over the next decade, supporting local shops, cafés and services. It will also create more than 120 jobs during construction, including apprenticeships. #affordablehousing #sustainablehousing #viability https://lnkd.in/eneBjGVM

A brand new playground designed by students has officially opened at Lift Aylward School in Edmonton. This unique project, delivered by Taylor Woodrow as part of their social value work on Enfield Council’s Meridian Water regeneration, gave Year 9 students the chance to take on the role of architects and designers. Over twelve weeks, pupils developed ideas, created models and presented their designs to a panel of experts before seeing their winning concept brought to life. The new playground includes a multi use play court, a large timber shelter with seating, amphitheatre steps, and a rain garden, all designed with fun, creativity and sustainability in mind. Councillor Abdul Abdullahi, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, joined pupils at the official opening and spoke about how the project has inspired young people and given them valuable skills for the future. He praised the collaboration between all the partners for delivering a lasting benefit to the local community. The initiative forms part of Meridian Water’s wider commitment to ensuring that regeneration delivers more than new homes and infrastructure. It is about creating real opportunities for local people through training, apprenticeships, education and employment so the benefits of growth are shared across Edmonton and beyond. Meridian Water continues to bring together partners who are passionate about improving lives, supporting young people and investing in the future of Enfield.
