Global internet bandwidth now stands at 1,835 Tbps — more than double the 2021 level & growing at 23% year over year. At present, the explosive growth in LEO communication satellites is barely scratching the surface relative to total global bandwidth; and yet ubiquitous internet access from space is enough to change the way our modern world works. The small satellite revolution is only just beginning. https://lnkd.in/gYdWt3wm

SPACE & DATA RACE. In just few months in 2025, over 1,200 satellites launched - almost 50% more than last year. We’re now close to 15,000 in orbit. Why? Global mobile traffic has hit 180 exabytes/month (+19% YoY). Video is 75% of it. 5G already carries a third. That’s why players like Starlink (7,800+ LEO satellites) and SES (multi-orbit GEO + MEO with O3b mPOWER) are critical - alongside many other companies. They’re building the backbone of global connectivity where fiber can’t reach. But every launch has a footprint. Reusable rockets can cut emissions by 95%, showing innovation and sustainability can run together. 🌍 More data → more satellites → more responsibility. 👉 Are we innovating fast enough to keep it sustainable - or just moving faster than we can govern? #Satellites #SpaceTech #DataRevolution #Connectivity #5G #DigitalBackbone #Sustainability #Innovation #FutureOfConnectivity

🚀 Feeling truly excited about the future of 5G from space! 🌍✨ Recent tests are showing promising results — proving that the concept is not just science fiction but fast becoming a real-world reality. For the next 5 years, I believe traditional carriers should be watching carefully. The competitive landscape could change drastically once low-orbit satellite networks start delivering 5G-level connectivity directly from space. This isn’t just about coverage — it’s about rethinking infrastructure, accessibility, and the way we define global connectivity. The tests so far? ✅ Looking good. The question is: will carriers adapt fast enough, or risk being left behind? #5G #SpaceTech #Innovation #Connectivity #Telecom
5G from Space — a breakthrough moment Eutelsat, together with Airbus, MediaTek, and industry partners, has successfully trialed a 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) using OneWeb’s LEO satellites. Why it matters: • Expands 5G coverage into remote and underserved regions • Demonstrates seamless integration between terrestrial and space networks • Lays the foundation for 6G and true global connectivity This isn’t just about connecting the unconnected. It’s about building a resilient, hybrid network model where satellites augment ground infrastructure ensuring coverage, redundancy, and performance everywhere. The trial shows how fast satellite broadband and mobile networks are converging. With NTN on the rise, the future of connectivity looks less like a patchwork of separate technologies — and more like a unified fabric that spans land, sea, air, and orbit. Reuters What do you think: will NTN become a mainstream part of 5G/6G rollouts by 2030?

Altice Labs and the European Space Agency - ESA are joining forces — with the support of MEO — to take #5G connectivity into space as early as 2027. In the second phase of the 5G Nanosatellite project, partners are developing a bidirectional 5G terminal for nanosatellites in low Earth orbit, integrating cutting-edge Software Defined Radio and open-source technologies on an AMD RFSoC platform. This pioneering initiative will enable near-continuous 5G communication between satellites and terrestrial networks — reducing dependence on ground stations and lowering connectivity costs. Meet Lightning powerhouse spacecraft platform built for high-power, long-life missions in low Earth orbit & beyond. Right now, Long Beach team is building Lightning satellites at scale to power two major constellations: 17 satellites for Globalstar's next-gen constellation that will extend the life of their messaging and IoT services fleet. 18 satellites for the Space Development Agency's Tranche 2 Transport Layer-Beta constellation to enable secure, low-latency comms for the warfighter. When the mission calls for serious endurance, Lightning strikes.
