UpLink innovators are using quantum technology to transform the mining industry: Mining is essential to the energy transition, supplying the critical minerals needed for EVs, batteries, and clean energy infrastructure. Yet, as highlighted in the World Economic Forum’s Securing Minerals for the Energy Transition report, the sector faces steep sustainability challenges. Despite its environmental footprint, it remains underfinanced in regions like Southern Africa, which holds nearly 30% of global reserves. Two UpLink ventures are harnessing quantum technologies to change this: Quminex applies quantum computing and AI to identify mineral deposits with less environmental impact, while Nomad Atomics has developed quantum sensors that map underground environments from the surface, reducing the need for drilling and improving safety.
