The chatter is that it'll be a tough budget year for #localgovernments, again. Many officials and residents are concerned about reductions in some services, as counties and municipalities prepare to do more with fewer dollars and the same or fewer staff members. But what if you could increase capacity with services that pay for themselves? Many local governments are doing just that. Take the example of a small city. For decades the City of Rutland, Vermont issued Certificates of Occupancy with first an unstructured, inefficient paper process. Then, they implemented single-use software that caused confusion by assigning different permit numbers for passed and failed inspections. In addition, the municipality wasn't collecting application fees. Working with GovPilot, though, the City of Rutland was able to offer an online application for Certificates of Occupancy that integrated immediate online payments through a third-party processor. Despite concerns that new fees would reduce applications, the city was on pace to collect between $40,000 and $45,000 in COO fees in FY 2022-2023. Revenue from fee collection alone more than covered the cost of the GovPilot modules the town implemented. The following year the city added more GovPilot modules, scaling their time savings and ensuring a simplified, streamlined process for revenue collection.

People often ask me what I do at GovDeals. Most think it’s just about helping cities and towns make money through auctions. That’s part of it, but it’s also about cost avoidance. When agencies hold on to large or costly items, they waste time, space, and resources. Through GovDeals, they can avoid those costs by selling surplus or transferring it to another agency that needs it. It’s about creating value and saving taxpayer dollars at the same time. #GovDeals #CostAvoidance #GovernmentSurplus #PublicSectorEfficiency #AssetManagement

📢 PUBLIC NOTICE: TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF MUNICIPAL TELEPHONE LINES The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality confirms that its landline system is currently inaccessible to the public due to suspended telephone lines. As a responsible organ of state, the Municipality is obliged to manage public resources in strict compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and related regulations. A due diligence process is currently underway to verify the service account in full before payment is processed. This ensures that the Municipality only pays for services legitimately rendered and that every cent of ratepayers’ money is responsibly accounted for. 💰 The account will be settled once verification is complete, and the Municipality remains committed to finalising this matter as swiftly as possible while upholding principles of sound financial governance. 👉 In the interim, residents and stakeholders are encouraged to use the following alternative channels to access municipal services: 🌐 Official website: https://lnkd.in/dtn_sPbH 📱 Municipality’s official mobile app 📧 Customer Care email: customercare@mandelametro.gov.za 🏢 Walk-in Customer Care Centres across the Metro 👥 Ward Councillor offices for direct community support The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused and assures residents and stakeholders that restoring full telephone services remains a priority. #AllHandsOnDeck #Siyasebenza #MetroAtWork #ANationThatWorksForAll

As a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group representing more than 300 SME independent developers nationwide — our Managing Director Jason Vince joined Sarah Edwards MP, and Secretariat Edwin de Silva for a cross-party discussion on how SME developers can accelerate delivery and modernise planning within an increasingly difficult sector. SME developers are the heartbeat of local house building and the biggest risk takers on speculative applications, yet the planning system often works against them. Planning delays, disproportionate regulation and limited funding continue to hold back the very businesses capable of driving regeneration from the ground up. It was encouraging to see genuine collaboration between MPs and industry voices focused on practical reform and we hope these changes come soon. #SMEHousebuilders #APPG #HouseOfCommons #PlanningReform #FutureHomes #EarlswoodHomes

Last week saw our Advisory Forum convene to discuss the latest trends and changes affecting the new build home industry and codes of practice. We were joined by Emma Webster from the Elderly Accommodation Counsel who highlighted some of the challenges facing older people and their families as they look to find suitable accommodation, particularly for those with changing care needs. We also heard from Catherine Martin, the Code’s communications lead, about the free resources and information we make available for consumers and the industry, and how to access them. Code Chair, Noel Hunter OBE, provided a timely update on the government’s new consultation on the buying and selling of homes which includes some proposals that are already in place for new homes sales as requirements of the Code. Chief Executive, Carol Brady MBE, reported on the latest disputes, including a reduction in non-compliance with adjudication decisions since launching a pilot charge in April. The resulting discussions and contributions from Advisory Forum members provided useful insights which informed the Code’s Board meeting later in the day. Thanks again to all our Advisory Forum members for their valuable contributions which help ensure our Code remains fit for purpose.
