Designing and delivering collective action for climate and nature across corporates is never simple. Again and again, one factor emerges as the critical enabler—or the biggest roadblock: finance. Who pays? How do they pay? And how can we ensure long-term financial sustainability? These are the questions that determine whether ambitious commitments translate into real-world impact. The good news: we’re beginning to see proven, scalable models that are answering these questions in practice. Initiatives from Lestari Capital, LENs Company, Sustainable Investment Management and Finance Earth are showing how finance can unlock collaboration and deliver tangible outcomes for both climate and nature. Nature-based Revenue Models in Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Supply Chains highlights case studies that show how companies can boost resilience, reduce costs, and protect biodiversity by working together to embed Nature-based Solutions (NbS) into their supply chains. The Green Finance Institute’s new "Revenues for Nature" guidebook explores how nature-based revenue models can mobilize private investment across agriculture, food, and fisheries supply chains. It highlights 4 models—Fisheries Improvement Funds, the Rimba Collective, the Responsible Commodities Facility, and Landscape Enterprise Networks—that demonstrate how collective, revenue-based approaches can pool capital, reduce risk, and deliver resilience and biodiversity benefits at scale. My Take: The nature-restorative and regenerative opportunity is even wider and requires corporate imagination. Nature-based solutions should not be siloed into singular carbon or biodiversity credit plans. Design that integrate into landscape-scale and regional urban, coastal, and watershed planning, combining conservation, restoration, and sustainable use will win with the right local partners, inclusivity, and fair corporate structures. The need for multiple revenue streams owned by local enterprises relevant to existing and emerging supply chains is critical for value creation. This is equally a call to family office and other catalytic investors, impact funds, NCS project developers, and regenerative agriculture/forestry startups to design and finance business models that balance multiple ecological outcomes, including mitigation for like-for-like ecosystem harm, with multiple revenue streams for financial and institutional durability. Supply chain models are becoming more commonly discussed in nature finance and policy circles - but it can be hard to find resources that give an overview of the landscape and offer insight on the elements of success. This Guidebook takes a look at four distinct models, identifying common lessons on drivers, barriers and opportunities to unlock investment. A great resource with a clear message - corporates should work together to address their supply chain resilience needs!

Last month, I read something that gave me both hope and challenge: According to FAO’s SOFIA 2024 report, for the first time in human history, aquaculture production (farmed fish and aquatic animals) has surpassed wild-caught fisheries. This is huge. Aquaculture accounted for 130.9 million tonnes in 2022 — nearly 51% of global aquatic animal production. What This Means — Lessons for Fisheries, Life & Projects 1. Change is inevitable — adapt or get left behind Wild fisheries have stagnated for decades. Aquaculture grew with intentional investment, innovation, and improved practices. If we want to make progress — in business, in our careers, in life — we must be ready to adapt, invest in new skills, and respond to changing reality. 2. Small shifts compound into landmark results This didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of thousands of farms, constant improvements in feed, genetics, technology, water quality, and regulation. In your own path: each small learning, each extra hour, each risk taken can be the seed that leads to a breakthrough. 3. Project management still rules Scaling aquaculture globally meant planning, resource allocation, risk assessment, process control. Same with life. Your progress depends less on grand gestures and more on disciplined execution: tracking, refining, adapting. 4. Opportunity for under-represented regions Africa currently contributes around 7% of aquatic animal production globally. The opportunity is massive. With better support, policy, infrastructure, and training, there’s room not just to follow, but to lead. ✅ My Take & Call to Action I see this trend as a signal: what was once considered “alternative” is now mainstream. If you’re in fisheries, agriculture, or any field where change feels risky — this is your chance. Innovate. Grow. Stake your claim. And if you’re in project management (or growing personally), you already have the tools to ride these shifts: consistency, adaptation, continuous learning. A new peer-reviewed study led by Brett Glencross with IFFO – The Marine Ingredients Organisation and published in Reviews in Fisheries Science & Aquaculture urges the industry to adopt a circularity framework when selecting and evaluating feed ingredients.
