Hi. After 2 years - coming back with the variation of a line chart with centered variance label 🟢 🔴 Notes: 🟦 This time built using standard DAX (non-visual calculation approach). This time it's based on a single-select slicer ('border' period) 🟦 Base: Chart displays last 13 months on x-axis (having 13th month back allows for showing value for prior year period) 🟦Addition 1: Higlighting first and last data point (top chart). Requires a single additional measure to bring both markers (with values) 🟦Addition 2: Adding Top ceiling max line (horizontal) and two error bars (for error bars - no additional measure required - just based on what we already have). - Middle and bottom chart. Requires: 1) One base/core measure (in thata case - sum of impressions) 2) Rolling 12 month Sum (monthly sum of 12 month period) 3) Last 13 month period display _______________________________________________________ This abovementioned metrics can be created also using a single measure or two, depending on how much we want to split it Then additionals: 4) Data points (first and last) 5) Max Value (top ceiling) - horizontal line 6) Centered data point with variance label included 🟦I've used the basic approach a few times in the daily projects (last 13 month instead of last 12 months + first/last data point + variance as a separate card) 🟦 Variance "bridge" would require two additional measures. Never used that so far in the project, but could be a nice visual presentation. 🟦Link to historical post: https://lnkd.in/eUH7Rrsd All best 🖐 #TheDataVisForge #analytics #microsoft #data #powerbi #datavisualization #dashboard #visualization #UX #UI
Hi Gustaw, Amazing work as always! Have you found a way to position the lines that indicate the variance vertically? That way they would indicate the size of the difference rather than just connecting the two datapoint to a label. Was tinkering around with PBI to do this yesterday but did not find an efficient solution. I replicated the DIM and FACT table and inserted a blank value there to create space for the lines. Would be fun to see you solve it!
Amazing Gustaw, this favorite so far!
wow muy bacano.
Thats realy cool . Maybe a combination of version 1 and 2 could work well too. I like the right alignment of the change and that could be combined with the "arrows"
Amazing work. Thank you Gustaw! 🙌
Thanks for sharing, Gustaw
Love this, Gustaw

2moGustaw Dudek I remember this workout well, and I made a small change that allowed users to select the number of months they wanted to evaluate the variation. It was one of my first posts that received the most comments. The workouts were one of the best things I did to improve my data visualisation skills in Power BI. For anyone who wants to learn more about this topic, I recommend joining the Data Forge community.
