Look I am no Nostradamus here, okay...but Romero Games Ltd., posting open positions for a new FPS game. I think people beating Sigil 2 probably assumed that the mentioned Hellion was going to be a DOOM 2 WAD. But I consulted a team of scientists, and they are predicting that this is the new game Romero is making. Think about this - design principles similar to OG DOOM. That fast moving, enemy prioritizing, demon ridden goodness of old but new, and improved. Maybe if we are lucky, another Buckethead soundtrack. The FPS genre is no desert right now. It's booming with games and a whole new generation of pistol starting, circle strafing maniacs who are discovering not only the classics like Doom, but also their modern contemporaries - the DUSK's, Turbo Overkill's, Ion Fury's, Selaco's, Prodeus', Amid Evil's, Ultrakills, and Mullet Mad Jack's of the world. (Oh I'm sorry I can't name ALL the good FPS games from the past 10 years, LinkedIN doesn't have a two million character limit) So having one of the original king-shit's of the FPS, who is still making Doom WAD's with no super shotgun and eight thousand dickhead Cacodemons make a brand new FPS game in the time where these games have been nicknamed "boomer shooters" because 38 year olds like me are sitting and waiting for the next Eviternity or Sunlust to come out for our GZDOOM executables would be the absolute cherry on top of what I consider the new greatest era for the genre. Or I'm totally wrong and Hellion is another DOOM WAD, not that I'd be disappointed either way.

We reached out to #OpenToWork game devs from top studios and asked them about the hardest challenges they have faced throughout their careers. The response was overwhelming, and three devs from Ubisoft Sydney shared their experiences working on XDefiant and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. This is your chance to ask anything from the game devs who have worked on AAA titles. We have requested them to stay on top of this thread. Here are the responses - Video Artist Benjamin Gaona said: "The biggest challenge while working on XDefiant was being part of the project from the very beginning and constantly adapting to the evolving artistic direction. The most exciting part was creating videos, like the loading screens, entirely from scratch, without any references, which allowed for a lot of creative freedom. The hardest challenge in my career has been finding the right balance to maintain consistency across all videos—whether internal content, in-game videos (loading screens, menus, etc.), or trailers—while being the sole video artist on the project." Brand Artist Alexandra S. mentioned: "I suppose my hardest challenge on XDefiant was melding the XDefiant brand with our “guest” IPs. Each IP comes in with its own unique design and style, and its own brand, so each season was a new challenge to conjoin two different brands and still make it an XDefiant season. Despite that being the hardest challenge, it was also the most enjoyable part of the job. A delicious challenge." Sr. Audio Designer Daniel Macdonald shared: "One of the best parts of being a Sound Designer in-game audio is the diversity of the role, but it also comes with immense challenges. We juggle everything from recording and asset creation to audio design and implementation for SFX, VO, and Composition. On projects like XDefiant and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, I worked across diverse areas—from weapons and interactive props to UI and environments—each requiring mastery of unique systems within the engine. While it could be overwhelming, the support of my teammates made it achievable.
