Much to contemplate from today's speech by the Employment Court's Chief Judge Inglis. Her astute observations about the divide between the original intent of the Employment Relations Authority and the reality of it now is particularly interesting. I am (of course) in full support that lawyers should be compensated for their expertise and time, but this does come at a cost that was perhaps not anticipated in 2000 when the Employment Relations Act came into being. Dear Employment Lawyers - Am I right???? Here in Virginia we have an election coming up and our Right to Work laws are being discussed. Sooooo many people think it means "at will" employment. GAWD - it doesn't. I remember back in the day when an employee wrote to the company, "You can't fire me this is a right to work state." Well.... that's not what that means. So, I wrote what I wrote for the Richmond Times-Dispatch Metro Business section.
