"Hiring the best developer out there?" Maybe 'best' isn't what you think it is. In the quest for top tech talent, we often encounter a common dichotomy: quality versus quickness. Understanding this distinction is crucial for making smart hiring decisions that truly benefit your team and projects. In today's fast-paced tech ecosystem, developers typically fall into one of two categories: 'Quality Developers' and 'Agile Developers'. Quality Developers are akin to artisans, crafting solutions with a long-term vision in mind. Their focus is on creating sustainable and robust systems that stand the test of time, though this often requires more development time. On the other hand, Agile Developers thrive on speed and adaptability. They are the sprinters of the development world, driven by the satisfaction of rapidly checking tasks off their lists. Their solutions are functional and timely, designed to address immediate needs with the understanding that enhancements can be made later. The majority of modern tech tasks demand the agility and flexibility of the second type, which explains the rising popularity of Agile methodologies. However, this doesn't eliminate the need for the meticulous craftsmanship of Quality Developers, especially for projects requiring a solid foundation that can evolve over time. As leaders and managers, when hiring, consider what your projects truly need. Is it the visionary precision of a Quality Developer, or the rapid execution of an Agile Developer? By consciously assembling a diverse team that includes both types of developers, you can ensure that your projects are not only completed efficiently but are also well-designed for future scalability and improvement. What's your approach to building a balanced tech team, and how do you match developer types to project needs?" #Hiring #TechTalent #AgileDevelopment #TeamManagement #TechLeadership

As always Lenny's posts are gold. 2 interesting insights on the data he publishes. The job market again needs more #ProductManagers but more experienced with ML/LLM. #India emerges as a tech powerhouse for #ProductManagement. No doubt no one wonders anymore why the big tech managers in big companies are from India. Great job.
State of the product job market: 1. There’s indeed a shift to hiring more senior PMs 2. Remote PM jobs are shrinking fast (down 35% from peak, and still shrinking) 3. More than one in five open PM roles is based in the San Francisco Bay Area (and still growing) 4. Bengaluru, India, is now the most popular location outside the U.S. for PM roles 5. The three most common hard skills that hiring managers are looking for from PMs are SQL, Jira, and experience with LLMs 6. The fastest-shrinking roles right now are diversity and scrum masters 7. Machine-learning engineers and data engineers are the most in-demand tech functions right now This analysis is based on exclusive data from two companies that I’m partnering with: 1. TrueUp, which tracks new job openings across all tech companies globally 2. Live Data Technologies, which tracks job changes (hires, departures, and promotions) across all companies in the U.S. Combining these two data sources reveals a whole new perspective on what’s really happening in the job market. Loads more surprises and insights in the full post: https://lnkd.in/gjArRAXm I’m going to continue tracking job market data and sharing regular updates on what’s changing in the product hiring market every few months or so. If there’s any data or questions you want us to dig into, please let me know in the comments.

Same thing I always tell people about Project Managers. All I need to do is to deliver the project on time and within budget by managing and driving the team. A project manager learnt how to use certain tools (Asana, Trello, Jira, Clickup, Google workspace etc.) and create certain document (Project Charter and plan, Work Breakdown Structure, Stakeholder Analysis etc.) same way developers or designers learnt how to use several tools like C++ and Figma respectively. peace ✌✌ #ProjectManagement #TechJobs #RemoteWork #SoftwareAgency #ProjectDelivery #RetailBusinessSystems #CareerOpportunity #OperationsManagement #UKJobs #JoinOurTeam #WorkFromHome #ProjectManagerLife #JobOpening #AgileProjectManagement #TechCareers

#randomthoughts #Day1 Myth: Project Managers should know how to code, design, test, and deploy. Reality: Project Managers are not here to do it all. We're here to manage and drive teams of developers, designers, and QA testers—ensuring the success of the entire project. Yet, some organizations still confuse the role, expecting us to be developers, testers, designers, and more. Project Management is not about knowing the nitty-gritty of code or UI/UX design (although understanding these aspects helps). It’s about orchestrating the process, balancing expectations, and delivering results. A project manager in construction can thrive in manufacturing, retail, or healthcare because it’s not about building the product—it's about managing the team that builds it. If your project manager needs to code, hire a Software Development Engineer (SDE) Project Manager. Let’s stop expecting one person to wear all hats and recognize the specialized skills of managing complex projects. And for the record, yes, Project Management requires education in project management(just like developers need skills to code) and experience. It's not an 'easy' job. Let’s give credit where it’s due. #ProjectManagement #Leadership #ManagementMisconceptions #TeamManagement #RealityCheck
