Discover GAITORING at Healthcare Week Luxembourg 2025! 👣 We’re proud to share our new video showcasing the GAITORING project, to be presented at Healthcare Week Luxembourg (7–8 October, LUXEXPO THE BOX). Developed in collaboration between IEE Sensing, the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg, and the Luxembourg Institute of Health, the GAITORING project bridges the gap between clinical research and industry expertise to advance digital health innovation. 💡 The project’s objective: to develop and validate #WalkinSense, a smart insole system for remote monitoring of gait and activity in patients with orthopaedic conditions during their daily lives. With insights shared by Dr. Romain Seil, Laurent Malisoux, Jennifer Fayad, Dr. Melanie Eckelt, PhD, and Valeria Serchi, this video reveals how a collaborative team of medical researchers and engineers translated advanced automotive sensing into healthcare solutions — bringing precision, reliability, and real-world usability to gait analysis. 🧠 WalkinSense provides objective, continuous data about motion patterns, empowering healthcare professionals to personalise treatment and prevent long-term consequences such as osteoarthritis. 🚶♀️ From laboratory validation to patient applications, the GAITORING project demonstrates how data‑driven insights can shape the future of personalised orthopaedic care. 👉 Watch the video to learn more about GAITORING and how Luxembourg’s medical and industrial innovation ecosystems come together to make gait intelligence a reality. 🎤 Don’t miss the live presentation at HWL25: Spotlight Stage | Oct 7 | 11:00–11:45 "IEE: Gait intelligence redefined – towards personalized and preventive medicine" Moderated by Lisa Burke : https://lnkd.in/eP9j3MsV This PPP Healthtech Project GAITORING benefits from the shared financial support by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and the Ministry of the Economy. #GAITORING #HealthcareWeekLuxembourg #DigitalHealth #GaitAnalysis #Orthopaedics #PersonalisedMedicine #ClinicalInnovation #MedTech #Luxembourg #Collaboration #PASH_LUX | Alain Schons | Tobias Meyer | Alain Schumacher | Britta Mac Neill | Laurent Seve

Why I Use Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in My Sports Medicine Clinic The most exciting and rewarding part of sports medicine clinic for me and my patients is when I get to use my musculoskeletal ultrasound! In sports medicine, accuracy and efficiency matter. That’s why musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK US) has become one of my most valuable diagnostic and treatment tools. ✅ Real-time diagnosis: Ultrasound allows me to see tendons, muscles, ligaments, and joints in motion — helping pinpoint the source of pain within minutes. ✅ Guided precision: When performing injections (PRP, BMA, steroid, or viscosupplement), ultrasound ensures the medication is delivered exactly where it’s needed, improving outcomes and patient comfort. Studies consistently show that ultrasound guided injections (in the hands of an experienced clinician) are statistically more accurate than blinded injections. ✅ Non-invasive and safe: No radiation, no long wait for imaging approvals — just instant, dynamic feedback. Patients can actually see what’s happening inside their joint during the visit. ✅ Faster recovery and smarter care: With better visualization, I can detect subtle issues early, personalize treatment plans, and help my patients return to activity faster — without unnecessary procedures. Ultrasound has always been and is a must for my practice!

We are excited to announce that Tartu University Hospital, the largest healthcare provider in Estonia, is expanding its use of Buddy Healthcare’s digital care coordination platform 🤝 Following the success of the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic’s remote cardiac rehabilitation program, the hospital’s Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Clinic is now introducing digital care coordination for patients undergoing surgery for benign vocal fold lesions. With this new digital voice disorder process, patients can access post-operative therapy from home for up to 6 months, ensuring better access to care and supporting improved long-term voice quality. Traditionally, without digital coordination, therapy opportunities have been far more limited. We are proud to continue our collaboration with Tartu University Hospital and look forward to sharing a case study in the future 💚 #VoiceDisorder #CareCoordination #BuddyHealthcare

In collaboration with colleagues in the Department of Otolaryngology, the Human Sensorimotor Control Lab received the second phase of funding of a $494,136 award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The funded project examines laryngeal vibration as a possible treatment for people with unexplained chronic cough, a condition that affects an estimated 5% of all Americans. Because the pathophysiology of chronic cough is not well understood, these patients have very limited treatment options. Our earlier proof-of-concept work could document that a subgroup of people with chronic cough respond to laryngeal vibration and this award seeks to substantiate this finding in a clinical trial. Jürgen Konczak, director of the HSC Lab, serves as Co-PI; Dr. Stephanie Misono from Otolaryngology, who sees these patients in her clinic, is the PI of the grant.

🩺 #BEUSCase October 2025 I Mirror image artifact A 24 year old male presents with pleuritic-like chest pain since 5 days. His vital signs are normal and your clinical examination shows no abnormalities. 🔍 POCUS Findings: In the LUQ you identify a mirror image artifact, with the spine artifact ending below the diaphragm (no spine sign running through the thorax). A mirror sign is mostly seen at the diaphragm-lung interface on ultrasound (especially in the LUQ or RUQ views). Because the lung is air-filled, the (hyperechogenic) diaphragm acts like a curved mirror: the liver or spleen is “reflected” above the diaphragm. You can also appreciate the curtain sign; which is the dynamic appearance of normal aerated lung tissue moving over and obscuring the upper abdominal organs with inspiration, like a curtain being drawn across the screen. These findings are normal and exclude pleural effusion or consolidation. 🔑 Normal lung ultrasound signs (mirror, curtain, absent thoracic spine sign) are highly reassuring and help exclude serious pathology such as pneumonia, effusion, or hemothorax. 🧠 POCUS bedside provides rapid reassurance in young patients with chest pain and normal clinical exam, limiting unnecessary imaging. ⚡ Labs and additional work-up were normal. The pain was most likely musculoskeletal. The patient was discharged with NSAID and follow-up advice. 📸 Image courtesy of ED ZAS Middelheim, Antwerp 💬 Seen something similar?
