Oura CEO debunks rumors on Reddit, showcases crisis comms strategy

Making brands and executives come to life on front pages, web pages, and social media

The crisis comms playbook is transforming before our eyes. The CEO of ŌURA just posted a video on Reddit refuting rumors that the platform shares personal data with the U.S. Government. Why this is a big deal: 1) Oura is showing other brands how it's done: they're reaching their most active, committed, community-driven audiences first on the platform where they come to obsess over the product. 2) Strategic communications is Super Power Number One in a world driven by LLM and AI search. Oura knows what the entire communications industry has been buzzing about for months: With LLMs scrubbing platforms like Reddit and other top-tier resources for search queries and responses to questions within Chat GPT conversations, a brilliantly placed video and written statement on a high-trust platform like Reddit will ensure that current and potential customers searching for information about these rumors will be served Oura's preferred response, not rumors. Grade-A brilliant work.

The original Oura blog that started this was a lethal combo of an extremely mundane update and just *terribly* worded. I absolutely see why people freaked out -- so, the whole thing is also a reminder that risk management never sleeps. But the Reddit post is a win for sure!

I was literally ruminating on how Reddit would factor into a crisis mitigation/management response when I saw your post. Brilliant and will be following...👀

Spot on Jacqueline This example also demonstrates the importance of CEOs maintaining a social media presence The video is credible because Tom Hale (and/or his PR team) are consistent across platforms It means that when he has to step in to address a crisis, he has an existing relationship with the audience - which helps the message land, because he is a trusted voice CEOs that avoid posting are missing a huge opportunity to build connection with their audiences.

I thought this story was whacky; thanks for posting Oura's excellent response.
