The Sullivan County Jail in Tennessee is featured as Correctional News' Facility of the Month! Treanor’s Justice Principal John Eisenlau talks about our work on the new jail in this September/October issue. The $106 million, 190,000-square-foot facility reimagines what a detention environment can be by prioritizing staff wellness, detainee health, and humane design. The project balances durability with dignity, incorporating: • Noise reduction and daylighting to improve daily life • Expanded medical and mental health care spaces • Safer sightlines and more efficient staff circulation • Flexible housing to support classification and future needs John and our partners at MBI Companies Inc. worked closely with county leaders and staff on this project, proving that collaboration and forward-thinking design can create facilities that are safer, healthier, and future-ready. 📖 Read the full article in Correctional News → https://bit.ly/4mROUdT #TreanorDesign #JusticeArchitecture #CorrectionalNews #FacilityOfTheMonth #SullivanCountyJail #FutureReadyDesign #HumaneDesign

Tactical Reminder for Law Enforcement: Know the Difference Between Jail and Prison When Talking to Criminals and Informants In the world of criminals, words matter. If you’re in law enforcement, corrections, or handling informants, you need to understand the difference between jail and prison. Jail is temporary….where someone waits. Prison is time served….where someone earns both hatred and, paradoxically, a form of respect. When someone says they “did time” but only sat in jail, it doesn’t carry weight on the street. In the criminal world, prison time signals credibility, status, and a different kind of respect that jail never will. Why does this matter to you? Because how you communicate determines trust, leverage, and control. If you confuse jail and prison when speaking with offenders or informants, you reveal inexperience. But if you use the language correctly, you establish credibility, open doors, and gain influence in the conversation. The nuance is small however in this line of work, small details decide whether you get cooperation or get played. #LawEnforcement #Corrections #PoliceTraining #CriminalJustice #InformantManagement #CorrectionsIntelligence #RuleOfLaw #IntelDriven

Aging prison populations are reshaping the challenges facing correctional systems nationwide. But as The New York Times recently highlighted in an op-ed, research shows that incarcerating people in their late 50’s and beyond does little for public safety—while diverting resources from more effective approaches. Through the lens of Minnesota's prison system, CJI’s report explores how aging populations, safety concerns, and facility limitations affect both public safety and rehabilitation, and outlines a path forward. 🔗 NYT article: https://lnkd.in/epgqpHGa 🔗 CJI Report: https://lnkd.in/g-k64mBJ #CriminalJustice #PrisonPopulation #Minnesota #DataDrivenJustice

One thing that can make working in a Jail, Prison or Juvenile Detention Center better is strong communication and support between leadership and staff. When officers and staff feel heard, when their safety concerns are taken seriously, and when leadership actively supports them, it changes the culture. Regular shift briefings, open lines of communication, and modern tools like Command Cloud from GUARDIAN RFID that make daily tasks safer and more efficient go a long way. At the end of the day, it’s about trust, morale, and teamwork. When those are strong, everyone has a better chance of achieving the ultimate mission which is getting your team home safe. #Leadership #Corrections #OTOM #Teamwork #CommandCloud

The purpose of this Steering Committee to JCOD is to engage the community and develop and drive forward recommendations to ensure the delivery of pretrial services are accessible, viable and measurable. Here's a clip of JCOD Director, Judge Songhai Armstead (Ret.) addressing the committee at last week's session. A huge thank you to every community member who takes the time to contribute to these important discussions.

#newsround: Prisoners repair their own prison – on proper pay An open prison has trumpeted the success of a scheme under which its residents are granted ‘day release’ to carry out repair work and earn a full wage – without leaving the jail HMP Leyhill devised the scheme in partnership with the prison maintenance contractor Gov Facility Services Limited (GFSL).
