Exciting Update: New Edition of "First Principles in Scrum: Foundations" Now Available! I'm excited to announce the latest edition of my book, First Principles in Scrum: Foundations (Vol. 1), just released on Leanpub! As the co-creator of Scrum and Scrum@Scale, I've poured decades of experience into exploring how universal laws from physics, biology, and neuroscience underpin hyperproductive teams. This book isn't just theory—it's a roadmap to transforming chaos into innovation, drawing on everything from quantum waves to entropy and self-organization. https://lnkd.in/edJqv4wF What's New in This Edition? The standout update is a fully revised "Lessons in Chemistry: Scrum in the Laboratory" chapter. Drawing from real-world lab experiences, it now delves deeper into how Scrum navigates unpredictability—like turning paper-chain experiments into breakthroughs—while integrating patterns, the brain's predictive engine, and biofeedback for sustainable pace. This revision sharpens the connections between chemical processes and agile practices, showing how teams can minimize surprises and fuel innovation, just as in a high-stakes lab environment. If you're battling entropy in your projects, this chapter alone will equip you with fresh strategies to achieve "Quality Without a Name" (QWAN) and drive world-changing results. Why grab it now? In today's AI-accelerated world, understanding these first principles isn't optional—it's essential for leaders, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and teams aiming for 10x productivity. Readers have called it "mind-expanding" and "a game-changer for agile mastery." Available exclusively on Leanpub for iterative updates: Buy Now. Your purchase supports ongoing refinements, with new chapters coming in almost every sprint. Let's build better together—tag a colleague who needs this! #Scrum #Agile #Innovation #Leadership #FirstPrinciples

Jeff, connecting scientific principles to team dynamics creates powerful frameworks. The chemistry lab analogy particularly highlights how Scrum transforms unpredictable environments into systematic innovation.

Thank you Jeff Sutherland for this exciting update of First Principles in Scrum: Foundations. In my experience guiding organizations in Latin America, I’ve seen that when teams understand the “why” behind Scrum (and not just the “what” or the “how”), agility stops being a framework and becomes a living system of continuous learning. Scrum is not about following rituals: it’s about transforming chaos into sustainable innovation. As you often cite, the best example of a Scrum Master can be seen in the movie Invictus: a leader in service of the team. For me, it’s the ultimate reference — and I truly hope that never changes in the essence of the Scrum Master role. This book is a strong reminder that foundations matter, because they bring us back to the essence of working in an agile way and delivering real value.

Back to the bookshelf, thank you, Jeff Sutherland, for the first release of your new book. I just got my copy and can’t wait to dive in. Your work keeps pushing practitioners like myself to build teams that ship and learn faster. I love the convenience of digital, but I still miss the magic of a signed copy. Hoping to cross paths soon and get this one signed in person.
