Barnard Elementary School in Washington, D.C., is supporting inclusion through sports. The school's Unified bocce team, which includes students with and without disabilities, won 1st and 2nd place at the city's Special Olympics Unified Bocce Championship. Beyond medals, the program fosters acceptance, teamwork and leadership. 4moWhat many fail to realize is that this is way more than winning or losing, as the article outlines. This teaches children how to be part of a community. To be a good friend, a good neighbor, to have empathy, to work together, to overcome obstacles. Most beautifully mentioned is that inclusivity spreads joy. Inclusivity teaches us how to be better people. Let’s not turn away from that.
