Excited to share a first look at the future Cascade Advanced Energy Facility in Washington state being developed by Energy Northwest. This small modular reactor (SMR) project demonstrates how nuclear power can be reimagined: smaller footprint, modular design, enhanced safety, with financial support from Amazon for development, licensing and construction. Through Amazon's equity investment in X-energy, we're accelerating carbon-free innovation with the goal of delivering more than 5 GW of nuclear energy to the U.S. grid by 2039, enough to power 3.8 million U.S. homes. Amazon backed SMR, Cascade, takes shape with up to 12 to follow. "This state-of-the-art small modular reactor (SMR) facility, which will be called the Cascade Advanced Energy Facility, or Cascade, will help us reduce our carbon emissions, support our sustainability goals, and bring a new source of energy to the grid. Today we're getting our first look at the future Cascade Advanced Energy Facility—which is expected to be one of the first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) facilities in the U.S. and will help us on our journey to reach our Climate Pledge in 2040. This advanced nuclear facility in Washington state represents our belief that developing new carbon-free energy sources requires bold innovation across multiple technologies.  Construction is expected to start by the end of the decade, with operations currently slated to start in the mid-2030s.
