Life unfolds in chapters, chapters that build and depend on all that came before. Today marks the conclusion of my 19-year Microsoft chapter. A chapter that was written across more than ten million minutes of my time on Earth. Each minute I’ve spent at Microsoft has offered a new perspective, a strategic insight, a breakthrough moment, or a supportive glance. Each minute has strengthened my resolve, my leadership, my understanding, and my empathy. Each minute has enabled me to work with, and more importantly learn from, cherished and inspirational colleagues and partners all around the world. Together, with these minutes and the minutes of countless others, we powered Bing with one of the earliest machine learning models, we invented quantum programming languages before quantum computers existed, and we brought the first quantum computers to Azure. We showed logical qubits can be better than physical ones, we demonstrated fault tolerant quantum computation on repeat, and we laid down architectures for quantum computing systems. We optimized quantum algorithms, we invented quantum codes, and we demonstrated a new phase of matter for a topological qubit. These minutes will no doubt shape my next chapter. But it’s the people I’ve spent them with who have shaped my life. To all of you: thank you. I carry you with me. And so the first minute of my next chapter soon begins…I’m excited. #gratitude (Image credit: My “job talk” for my interview at Microsoft Research, January 2006)
Remember when working on fault tolerant quantum computing was like twenty people :). What a journey!
Dear Krysta. Meeting you in the first few months after starting Cambridge Quantum was one of those key moments that helped us to focus on our mission. As we have grown, all of us at Quantinuum have developed nothing but the utmost respect for you. Wishing you only the best - Ilyas
What a chapter—and what a legacy. You didn’t just shape technology, you shaped people. Your minutes sparked revolutions in quantum and moments of deep connection. Grateful to have shared some of those minutes with you.
Krysta Svore, I always valued our time together — exploring new technical concepts, shaping strategies for the Quantum program’s success, and sharing life stories while traveling to meet our global teams. Go n-éirí leat!
And every minute we chatted I think I learned something new…about quantum, parenting and life 😀 Massive congratulations Krysta on all those minutes, the impact of which are timeless. Looking forward to the Krysta minutes updates…new webinar series?☘️
Krysta, thank you for many years of outstanding leadership at Microsoft. It was a pleasure to work with you! I can't wait to find out what you will do in your next chapter and hope that our paths will cross again!
Krysta Svore your dedication, patience, generousity, and energy built Microsoft Quantum from the ground up! From the beginning, your leadership, with Mike and Burton, established this broad program that has nurtured so many careers and had significant impact within the company and across the quantum community. Your legacy at Microsoft is lasting! I wish you the best for the future and excited to watch you have even more impact in chapter 2!
Congratulations on completing such an incredible chapter, Krysta maam!.. Your work on Majorana particles was my first introduction to the topic and truly inspired me: https://lnkd.in/gJca84HQ You have a gift for making complex fields accessible. All the best in your new venture! Many many thanks for sharing your PhD work. Your video below has pulled me toward quantum world.... https://lnkd.in/gQUEqX4J Regardless of when commercial quantum computing becomes a reality, the pursuit itself is invaluable; this collective effort brings us ever closer to solving the fundamental mysteries of the universe
Thank you Krysta Svore - I loved my time working together at Microsoft, and really appreciate all of the opportunities for growth you created for the field, and perhaps just as importantly, for the people in it. It is heartwarming to read through the comments of the many many people whose careers you have had such an important impact on :) I am excited to see what is next!
I'm going to miss working with you. You've had a profound impact on Microsoft's quantum program and are a rare combination of great person, brilliant engineer, brilliant communicator.
