US Navy's submarine-launched torpedo gets improved communication system

𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 // 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐘, 𝐕𝐚. – General Dynamics Mission Systems announced today that it was awarded a cost-plus-fixed-fee, cost-plus-incentive fee, firm-fixed-price, and cost-only contract from the U.S. Navy for up to $91.1 million to develop and produce Submarine Tethered Expendable Buoy (STEB) systems. Work will be performed in Manassas, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by July 2030. “Our Progeny Systems team has been providing innovative electronic warfare capabilities to the Navy for over 10 years. This contract allows us to deliver a critical new capability to the submarine force which will increase the platform’s situational awareness in contested areas,” said Laura Hooks, vice president and general manager of Maritime and Strategic Systems at General Dynamics Mission Systems. 🇺🇸🤝 REGENT and Fairlead teamed up to deliver “scalable mil-spec solutions for resilient sea-based logistics, cargo, and intelligence operations” of the US Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and Special Operations forces. Partnership details:  1️⃣ Regent will provide Seaglider platform, which uses hydrofoiling wing-in-ground-effect tech that allows vessels to travel just above water surface for higher speed, extended range, and low radar and acoustic signature 2️⃣ Fairlead will scale up production, integrate systems, and support transition of prototypes into operational platforms 3️⃣ Seagliders could be used for troop and supply transport, medevac, ISR, and deployment of uncrewed systems across Indo-Pacific “This partnership is about speed, scale, and resilience as we embark on the future of American shipbuilding,” Regent CEO Billy Thalheimer said. Meanwhile, Fairlead President Fred Pasquine said that Regent’s Seagliders are a “prime example of technology that will revolutionize US maritime defense operations.

Raytheon, an RTX business, has secured a $205 million U.S. Navy contract for continued production and upgrades of the Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS)—the Navy’s last line of defense against missiles and close-in threats. Installed on all U.S. Navy surface combatants and ships of 24 allied nations, Phalanx recently saved 300 sailors aboard the USS Gravely by intercepting a Houthi missile in the Red Sea.
