This Mental Health Awareness Week has taken on new significance for me. This morning, on my way to work, I witnessed someone in a moment of crisis and dialed 101. Initially, the authorities had deemed the first call from someone else as non-urgent, but my follow-up call escalated the response. It's a crucial reminder: never assume someone else will call the police. If you see someone in crisis, pick up the phone and dial 101 to speak to your local police department. Instead of a limited focus on physical violence, the Safe & Together Model embraces the understanding that the robust and more comprehensive concept of coercive control offers one of the best ways to understand how domestic violence perpetrators create danger & harm for adult and child survivors. What an amazing 3 day summit!! 3 different days with 3 different opportunities to peek and speak into the lives of barbers, beauticians, stylists, etc. Being mentally well is important across individual and collective statuses. Who you are and where you come from doesn’t exempt you from symptoms that can negaetively impact your overall quality of life. Being able to recognize unhealthy patterns of behavior can be a game changer when someone is in your space, being able to affirm them and provide them resources and guidance could very well be the difference in servicing them for the last time or creating a life-long relationship. As we reach the end of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, we want to highlight the resources #Uncornered Catalysts receive to begin to address the violence that has surrounded them. Providing access to mental health support, employment resources, and educational training offers members of the Uncornered network a chance to engage in prosocial activity, often for the first time in their lives.
