The Impact of Funding Cuts on People Living with HIV in Africa As a social worker in Kenya, I have witnessed firsthand the life-saving impact of donor-funded programs on people living with HIV. The recent funding cuts, influenced by directives from the Trump administration, pose a significant threat to the progress made in combating HIV/AIDS across Africa. For years, donor support has ensured access to antiretroviral therapy, community-based care, and prevention programs that have saved countless lives. Without this support, we risk reversing the gains made, increasing new infections, and leaving vulnerable populations without essential healthcare services. Now, more than ever, we must advocate for sustainable funding and policies that prioritize the health and well-being of those affected by HIV. As young people in higher learning institutions, we have a critical role to play in normalizing conversations around HIV/AIDS. We must recognize that our words and actions can either perpetuate stigma and discrimination or create a safe and supportive space for those affected. Today is World AIDS Day. I was devastated by Mom's death at the climax of HIV/AIDS pandemic in Uganda in 1997. People would get so skinny and die in those days. There was a lot fear within the community. Having survived my mom's tragic death when we needed her the most, nothing can shake me on God's green earth! True strength comes from inside; think of eggs hatching into chicks or seeds germinating into more plants. Every family I know has been affected. We have more HIV/AIDS positive people today but less deaths because of increased access to ARTs. An AIDS-free future is possible, but lawmakers must invest more in healthcare not delegate to USAID and other donors who prioritize their own interests. Speak out for comprehensive HIV services in your community; education, prevention, testing, and treatment. To #EndAIDS we must leave no one behind especially minorities among us such as the poor, people with disabilities, and the LGBT community. ❤️ By protecting the right to #HealthForAll and reducing new infections, we can #EndAIDS and sustain the HIV response for years to come! I know of people who have lived with HIV/AIDS since 1997 and are healthier than everyday Ugandans. They take good care of themselves, follow the doctor's instructions and lead a positive life. They're likely to die of something else; boda accident, landslides, robbers or election related violence! 🤔

Ah HIV? seriously,  AIDS? While it is a new month, it's also World AIDS day and another thing that kills almost equivalently to AIDS is the sigma that comes with it. As a medic who is passionate about public and community health, this day is special as it is a reminder that we need to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, promote its education, and support those affected by the disease. All we have to do is to take action by getting educated about HIV/AIDS and sharing your knowledge with others, supporting organizations working towards HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, then finally breaking down stigma and promoting inclusivity for those affected by HIV/AIDS It's time to take the right paths for our health. #SDG3 #HIV #AIDS
