Developing integrated pest management (IPM) for any pest is a continuous process. In this video, our lab team members Flint McGrath and Dr. Samaneh Sakaki are testing a “green” compound against a major invasive pest, spotted wing drosophila (SWD), in a lab setting. We conducted the field trial early in the season. The California Cherry Board supports this work.

Thank you Kitsap County for your video! Here is a favorite example of one of many little understood creative behaviors salmon employ to pass beaver dams. This video shows what I call "Behavioral Breaching" which is the process by which salmon can actively modify and deform a beaver dam through group probing, resulting in the creation of a novel passage corridor. Behavioral Breaching requires a critical mass of salmon that can provide the necessary mechanical means to breach the dam. Salmon are not merely responders to flow conditions, or passive recipients of critical habitat rather, they are agents that can shape their own passage opportunities and thus actively secure beneficial population level outcomes for themselves and the ecosystems they inhabit. https://lnkd.in/gYswKaBZ

Pest Control is not complete, if root cause analysis is not done properly. Root cause analysis means you don't just ask: "How do I kill these pests today? Instead, It provides answers to: "Why are they here in the first place?" "What conditions allow them to thrive?" Watch this new episode of Pestinsight for more details. Your home, commercial facility, needs a proper pest assessment and detailed audit report before spraying report.

ASA supports efforts to improve red snapper management in the South Atlantic. The fishery has rebounded — but outdated federal regulations haven’t kept pace. “From a conservation perspective the closure worked,” said ASA’s Martha Guyas. “Clearly the fishery is doing better, and we should allow people to harvest more. There’s been a lot of resentment and it’s been tough on those who rely on fishing for their livelihood.” It’s time to align access with the science. https://bit.ly/4mf9TYj

Merging federal wildland fire agencies is historic but unity on paper won’t fix decades of conflicting DOI & USDA policy. Real reform means confronting culture, not just redrawing org charts.

Dear Farmer, Farm safety is a mindset. It’s the daily decision to protect your body, your mind, and the people around you. Before you lift, cut, spray, or drive, pause and think. Most farm injuries happen when we rush or act without thinking. 👉 Farm safety starts in the mind. A careful mind leads to a safe farm. Video credit: Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies)
