MetOcean’s NiKA sub-surface acoustic float was deployed during NATO’s premier naval exercise, detecting underwater targets and sending their acoustic signatures through Iridium for near real-time analysis. Working with our partner RS Aqua, NiKA was integrated with their Marlin classification system, combining detection with advanced machine-learning analysis to deliver stronger ASW capabilities and improved maritime awareness. China’s new J-35 stealth fighter jet has made history by becoming the world’s first catapult-launched stealth aircraft, outpacing even the advanced U.S. F-35 in this category. Unlike traditional ski-jump launches used by older carriers, the catapult system enables the J-35 to take off with heavier payloads, longer range, and improved combat readiness from China’s newest aircraft carriers. This development marks a major leap in naval aviation technology, positioning China at the forefront of carrier-based stealth operations. China has taken another major step in naval modernization. Its third aircraft carrier, the Fujian, has successfully launched advanced warplanes using electromagnetic catapult systems (EMALS) — a technology once unique to the U.S. The footage highlights the J-35 stealth fighter, J-15T, and the KJ-600 early warning aircraft operating from the Fujian’s deck. This marks the first-ever launch of a stealth jet via EMALS, underscoring major progress in China’s aerospace engineering. Equipped with three EMALS catapults, Fujian represents a leap from China’s earlier ski-jump carriers, enabling heavier, fully armed aircraft to take off. The addition of the KJ-600 also closes a critical surveillance gap, giving carrier groups extended reach and coordination capabilities. MBDA wins production contract for TESEO MK2/E missile - MBDA has signed a production contract with Italy’s National Directorate of Naval Armaments to build the TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile for the Italian Navy, according to the company.

Kraken Robotics was on the ground at #REPMUS25, supporting the integration of our Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) with UUVs from allied navies around the world - including the US Navy, Royal Navy, The Belgian Navy, German Navy (Navy Command of the German Navy | Marinekommando Deutsche Marine), and Royal Netherlands Navy (Koninklijke Marine) - alongside EvoLogics GmbH, Anduril Industries, and Teledyne Marine, all operating Kraken SAS payloads.   With a permanent presence throughout the exercise, Kraken’s team worked closely with NATO partners to ensure seamless SAS performance and integration in complex, real-world conditions.   Our field-proven sonar systems helped naval operators unlock ultra-high-resolution seabed intelligence, enhancing autonomy, confidence, and mission success in multi-domain environments. China’s Fujian Carrier A Strategic Marker in Maritime Power Shifts The news of China’s Fujian successfully executing electromagnetic catapult-assisted launches and arrested recoveries with the J-15T, J-35, and KJ-600 caught my attention—not just as a naval development, but as a signal of strategic intent. Electromagnetic launch systems elevate a carrier from being a platform of prestige to one of sustained combat utility. With this leap, the PLAN (People’s Liberation Army Navy) now possesses the ability to - Generate higher sortie rates and operational tempo. - Integrate heavier, more advanced aircraft such as stealth fighters and AEW platforms. - Extend reach and persistence across contested maritime zones. In my view, this changes the conversation in the Indo-Pacific. The Fujian represents China’s shift from catching up to setting benchmarks in naval aviation. Technology by itself does not guarantee supremacy—doctrine, training, and experience remain critical—but the trajectory is clear. Looking ahead, the real question is how quickly China can integrate this capability into a cohesive, combat-ready force. For India, the U.S., and regional powers, this should drive a sharper focus on the following aspects - - Joint force integration across naval, air, space, and cyber domains. - Enhancing maritime domain awareness and interoperability with partners. - Accelerating indigenous capability development to avoid strategic asymmetry. China has placed a marker. How others respond will define the maritime balance of the next decade.

🇸🇪🌊 NATO has selected Swedish defense company Saab to lead a multinational effort to build a new underwater mission network linking allied naval forces. Under the Allied Underwater Battlespace Mission Network project, the “Mangrove” consortium will design a reference architecture and a test environment for a system that connects manned and unmanned maritime platforms above, on, and below the water. Mats Wicksell, head of Saab’s business area Kockums, said the Mangrove consortium will spend the next 12 months developing a mission network to support NATO’s underwater operations.
