Our application specialists naturally combine business and science. Last week, our colleague Vendula Hrabalová presented part of her doctoral research from the Fakulta chemická VUT v Brně at the Imaging Principles of Life 2025 conference. The work focuses on the biotransformation of waste compounds from the food industry by bacteria into high-value molecules. One such product is vanillic acid, which exhibits pharmaceutical activity in protecting the nervous, hepatic, and cardiovascular systems. This gives it potential for treating diseases such as Alzheimer's, obesity, and diabetes.  And yes—LVEM enables high-contrast imaging of the bacteria involved in this biotransformation.
