Ranchi police have stressed the need for proper tenant verification after recent criminal incidents in the city. Many landlords have not been reporting new tenants to the authorities, even though regulations require it, creating gaps in safety monitoring. Police have directed all stations to collect tenant information and plan awareness campaigns to educate landlords on their responsibilities. This initiative aims to prevent rental properties from being misused for criminal activities and improve safety for residents. The article announces Kochi as India’s “crime capital” based on NCRB data. But dig deeper Kochi’s high crime rate reflects the efforts of a genuinely friendly police force that encourages citizens to report every offence. Kerala's police stations are called Janamaithri stations. Here, high numbers are a sign of openness and cooperation, not danger. When data is presented without context, it can mislead. A city with a supportive police environment may look unsafe while places with less approachable police seem safer simply because fewer crimes get reported. Always remember: numbers don’t tell the real story without the right perspective. Data without context is just noise. #DataLiteracy #FriendlyPolice #Perspectives #ContextMatters ttps://https://lnkd.in/gDNyNCyY

NCRB 2025 Report: India’s “Unsafe City” Might Surprise You. Most people assume Delhi leads the charts for crime, but according to the National Crime Records Bureau (2025), Kochi records the highest crime rate in India 3,192 offences per lakh population. It’s followed by Delhi (2,105) and Surat (1,377), while Kolkata emerges as the safest major city, with just 84 cognisable crimes per lakh people. Hyderabad, Pune, and Mumbai also perform strongly, each reporting under 400 crimes per lakh. The report covers 19 Indian cities with populations above 20 lakh, and the average crime rate among them stands at 828 per lakh. But here’s the key caveat: this data comes from state police records, and since law and order is a state subject, differences in governance, FIR registration policies, and local reporting practices may distort the real picture. ➡️ So, do these stats reveal the truth about safety, or just the truth about data collection? Let’s discuss. #NCRB2025 #DataDrivenIndia #UrbanSafety #IndianCities #Governance #PolicyAnalysis #PublicSafety #CrimeData #IndiaInsights
