CBK has rejected a proposal to integrate a bank-owned bond trading platform, citing risks to interest rate predictability. East African Bond Exchange (EABX), which backs the move, argues it would deepen the bond market, boost liquidity, and lower borrowing costs.

The ongoing bank recapitalisation exercise continues to shape market activity this week, with FCMB Group Plc currently in the market to raise funds in support ofFirst City Monument Bank Limitedd Bank capitalisation efforts. The proceeds from the offer are expected to strengthen the bank’s capital base and enable it to retain its international banking licence in line with theCentral Bank of Nigeriaa's new minimum capital requirements. Meanwhile, investors are closely watching the approval status of other banks that have either completed or are in the process of meeting and in some cases, exceeding the CBN’s specified share capital threshold. Market analysts note that successful approvals could trigger renewed investor confidence and further stimulate activity in the equity market. FCMB has announced the launch of a N160bn public offer, aimed at bolstering the capital base of its banking subsidiary, in line with the CBN's new N500bn minimum capital requirement for international banks. ICD Marks Another Milestone with Oversubscribed USD 500 Million Sukuk ICD has successfully priced a USD 500 million 5-year Sukuk through ICDPS Sukuk Limited, reaffirming its aspiration to be one of the leading Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) issuers in the global capital markets. The Sukuk was priced at a profit rate of 4.391%, equivalent to a spread of 65 basis points over U.S. Treasuries, the tightest ever achieved by ICD to date. The transaction attracted robust investor demand, with an orderbook exceeding USD 2 billion, representing a four-times oversubscription. The Sukuk structure is based on Wakala/Murabaha, and the certificates are listed on Euronext Dublin and Nasdaq Dubai. When we posted earlier this year about the Saudi Central Bank – SAMA finalising its netting regulations, we highlighted the importance of enforceability for market confidence.   That framework has now been reinforced on several fronts: International Securities Lending Association (ISLA) commissioned local counsel opinion from STAT affirms close-out netting under the GMSLA, and ICMA - International Capital Market Association has likewise announced the 2025 Saudi GMRA opinion commissioned from local counsel.   Together with the earlier ISDA netting opinion, these developments show consistent recognition of enforceability across derivatives, repo and securities lending. FCMB Group Plc has listed 3.16 billion new shares on The Nigerian Stock Exchangee following the conversion of a N23.11 billion mandatory convertible loan into equity. This increased the bank’s issued shares to 42.77 billion units and raised its market capitalization by N33.09 billion to N446.96 billion.
